Quirk-Silva’s Fairview Proposal gets included in May Revision

Today, Governor Gavin Newson announced his adoption of Orange County Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva’s proposal that seeks to provide options at the State’s Fairview Developmental Center, for Orange County’s homeless.

To address the immediate crisis of homelessness and severe medically ill Orange County residents, the Governor has included authorization to move forward to house and treat approximately 200 OC residents who have no shelter, security or medical treatment.

Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva, author of Assembly Bill 1295, which is reflected in the Governor’s budget proposal, was humbled and quick to praise the Governor’s support for the consideration of the Fairview state property for Orange County’s neediest and despairing residents. The Assemblywoman stated that, “These men and women are our hidden neighbors; they come from all over Orange County, and need shelter and medical care, in order to find stability and hope.”

Quirk-Silva’s legislation and the Governor’s support is a very personal issue for the OC Assemblywoman, her Brother, who has faced mental and alcoholism issues, recently died on the streets of Orange County. The Assemblywoman invites administration to work with the Big City Mayors and a broad coalition of homeless advocates to fine-tune the homelessness and housing proposal.

The Assemblywoman closed with a poignant comment; “it was her hope that her Brother, Billy, and others like him, would find a better life with this help.”

The revised budget will now undergo a thorough vetting and public review process and be voted upon later in June.

  1. We are our brother’s keeper so like everyone with a caring heart, I want to help the homeless and severe medically ill. However, many issues occur or are aggravated by ILLEGAL ALIENS in our state. I wish Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva would address the many problems caused by ILLEGAL ALIENS.
