Lyft launches Orange County “Ride Smart Coalition”

This Memorial Day Weekend, Lyft announces its Orange County “Ride Smart Coalition” in collaboration with local partners committed to providing a responsible ride option and discounted rides on weekends and holidays where there is a potential for increased alcohol consumption. Lyft’s year-round coalition includes the local police, entertainment venues, alcohol brands, as well as national partners committed to reducing impaired driving and driving-related fatalities.

The full list of partners include:

  • Orange County Brewers Guild
  • Rockers Against Drunk Driving (RADD)
  • The Anaheim Ducks Hockey Club
  • The Fullerton Police Department
  • Honda Center
  • The Observatory

This Memorial Day Weekend, Lyft’s Ride Smart Coalition is offering $5 off Lyft rides anywhere in Orange County for those who enter the code “OCRIDESMART” into the Lyft app any time between 8:00 PM on May 24th through 4:00 AM on May 28th.

“We’re proud to bring together this coalition, which consists of important local institutions as well as national partners to provide passengers with a reliable alternative to driving under the influence,” said Elliot Greenberger, Market Manager of Lyft in Southern California. “Whether you are celebrating in the Orange Circle, bar hopping on the Balboa Peninsula, or getting together at a friend’s house, we want everyone to plan ahead with a smart ride during the long weekend and other holidays throughout the year.”

“Our goal is to eliminate DUI-related accidents and fatalities completely,” said Tony Rios, Lieutenant of the Fullerton Police Department. “We encourage locals and tourists to make the responsible choice and utilize smart transportation options when they are heading out and going back home. We thank Lyft for their shared commitment to this goal and the entire Ride Smart Coalition members’ contributions that will truly save lives.”

Lyft and its Ride Smart Coalition partners also plan to provide credits for more holidays throughout the year, including:

  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day Weekend
  • Halloween
  • Thanksgiving Eve
  • New Years Eve

Additional Ride Smart codes will be shared throughout the year right before each aforementioned holiday.
