Colonel Nick Ducich assumes command of Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos

Colonel Nick Ducich entered military service in April 1988 enlisting in the US Army Reserve. He received his officer’s commission from the California Polytechnic State University ROTC program in 1990.

COL Ducich is currently the Assistant Division Commander – Support for the 40th Infantry Division and Installation Commander for Joint Force Training Base – Los Alamitos. Some of his previous military assignments include Commander of the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Commander Multi National Battle Group East – Kosovo, Commander of Joint Multinational Training Group – Ukraine, Executive Officer 79th IBCT, Senior Space Officer 40th Infantry Division, Commander 1-160th Infantry Battalion, Counterdrug Region South Commander, Deputy Commander-Ops Joint Task Force Sierra, Bilateral Affairs Officer-Ukraine, Task Force Engineer Commander (Operation Jump Start), 1-184th Infantry Battalion Operations Officer (Operation Iraqi Freedom), Alpha Company 1-184th Infantry Battalion Rifle Company Commander (Operation Desert Spring), along with Engineer Company Command and Platoon Leader positions.

COL Ducich’s Awards include; Legion of Merit (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters),Army Commendation Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Force and Navy Commendation Medals, Army and Air Force Achievement Medals in addition to several other Federal and State Medals/Ribbons. His decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Space Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Parachutist Badge. COL Ducich is also a recipient of the Saint Maurice Medal from the National Infantry Association, the De Fleury Medal from the Corps of Engineers Association, and the Draper Armor Leadership Award.

COL Ducich holds Masters Degrees in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, a Master’s of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Maryland, and a Master’s of Science in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota. He also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering from California Polytechnic State University. His military education includes; Brigade Pre-Command Courses, United States Army War College, Space Officer Qualification Course, Space 200 & 300 from the National Security Space Institute, Advanced Joint Professional Military Education Level II, Advanced Operations Course, Command and General Staff College, Cavalry Leaders Course, Combined Arms & Service Staff School, Infantry Advanced Course, and Engineer Advanced and Basic Courses.

His experiences and education resulted in Additional Skill Identifiers of 3L (Joint Qualification Level III), 3H (Joint Planner), 3Y (Space Enabler), 5Q (Pathfinder), and 5P (Parachutist).

Colonel Ducich is married to the former Kristia Davidovich and they have three children (Natalija, Luke and Ivan) while residing in Chula Vista, California.
