Orange County’s Republican State Senate delegation announced that they have unanimously endorsed Michelle Steel in her campaign for the 48th congressional district. The latest round of endorsements by State Senators Pat Bates, John Moorlach, and Ling Ling Chang gives Michelle Steel the support of Orange County’s entire Republican state legislative delegation, which includes:
- State Senator Pat Bates
- State Senator John Moorlach
- State Senator Ling Ling Chang
- State Assemblyman Bill Brough
- State Assemblyman Tyler Diep
- State Assemblyman Steven Choi
- State Assemblyman Phillip Chen
“County Supervisor Michelle Steel has been a trusted and strong voice for Orange County families, and she is the clear choice to be our next Congresswoman,” said State Senator Pat Bates who previously served as Senate Republican Leader.
“Michelle Steel is a principled fiscal conservative who has devoted her career in public service to tirelessly protecting taxpayers,” said Senator John Moorlach. “Now more than ever, Orange County needs a fighter like Michelle Steel in Washington, D.C. to protect us from potentially extreme policies that will raise taxes and take even more hard-earned dollars away from California families.”
In just her first month on the campaign trail, Michelle Steel has firmly established herself as the leading Republican to face Democrat Harley Rouda. Steel has already secured the endorsements of the Republican Party of Orange County, Lincoln Club of Orange County, and several of the district’s most influential leaders including Sheriff Don Barnes, County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett, and County Supervisor Andrew Do.
In 2018, Steel was overwhelmingly re-elected to represent Orange County’s 2nd supervisorial district with 63.4% of the vote. The 2nd supervisorial district overlaps 66% of California’s 48th congressional district and is solely in Orange County.
The 48th district encompasses all or portions of Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, and Westminster.
