The Long Beach Police Department is announcing the promotion of Deputy Chief Wally Hebeish to Assistant Chief of the Long Beach Police Department. Assistant Chief Hebeish brings 25 years of law enforcement experience to the position, including three years as part of the Police Department’s executive management team leading the Support Bureau, Patrol Bureau, and serving as the Chief of Staff to Chief Robert G. Luna.
Assistant Chief Hebeish currently oversees the Patrol Bureau and will continue to serve in this capacity until a new deputy chief is selected. He will serve as second in command to Chief Luna and have expanded oversight within the organization to help implement new technology, comply with legislative mandates, and prepare for attrition rates anticipated at all levels of the department this year.
“I am very pleased to promote Deputy Chief Hebeish to the position of Assistant Chief,” said City Manager Patrick West. “As the responsibilities managed by the Police Department have continued to expand in scope and complexity, this position is critical to effectively managing the wide range of legal, technical, and operational issues that occur in a large city like Long Beach. I am confident that Assistant Chief Hebeish will continue to provide excellent leadership and engagement with our community in his new position.”
Police Chief Robert Luna stated, “I am very proud of Assistant Chief Hebeish and the contributions that he has made to our department and look forward to his continued leadership as we plan and prepare for the future. His management style, innovation, and communication skills are well regarded at all levels of our department and I know he will continue to positively impact our police organization and our community in his new leadership role.”
“I am honored and grateful for this opportunity to help lead our organization into the future,” stated Assistant Chief Wally Hebeish. “I look forward to building upon our department’s commitment to strengthening relationships and continuing to foster trust and open communication with the community we serve.”
Prior to serving on the Executive Management Team, Assistant Chief Hebeish served as the Commander of the Internal Affairs Division. Throughout his career, he has worked in various assignments including Patrol, Criminal Intelligence Section, Financial Crimes Detail, Narcotics Section, and the Homicide Detail.
Assistant Chief Hebeish holds a Master’s Degree in Communication from Southern New Hampshire University and holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Long Beach State University. He is a graduate of the Major Cities Chiefs Association Police Executive Leadership Institute, Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, and the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Management Course.
