Orange County Rescue Mission announces urgent need for canned food and personal care item donations

Orange County Rescue Mission has announced a critical need for personal care items for the 268 men, women and children currently residing at various campuses and the Village of Hope, the Rescue Mission’s transitional living facility.
Donated items will be shared during the Rescue Mission’s “Christmas in July” event on Friday, July 26. The organization hosts this event annually with a two-fold purpose: providing resident families a second chance at a holiday celebration; and reminding the community that there is a year-round need for donations.

“Each year, our Christmas in July event brings the spirit of Christmas to our resident families, many of whom have not been able to celebrate the holidays for the last year or even longer,” says Jim Palmer, President, Orange County Rescue Mission.

“Additionally, while the holiday season naturally fosters a strong sense of charity and giving, this donation drive and event was established to serve as a reminder that there is a need for giving all year long – especially during the summer months.”

This year, the Rescue Mission is in urgent need of the following items to assist families in need:

  • Canned food – tuna, meat, fruits vegetables and beans
  • Hygiene items – bars of soap, shampoo, underwear for kids (all sizes), underwear for women (all sizes), toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent, toilet paper and baby wipes

Donations can be dropped off at the Rescue Mission’s Village of Hope from now through Friday, July 26. Community partners Chick-fil-A at the District in Tustin and the Tustin Auto Center will also be accepting donations. Additionally, items can be ordered online and delivered directly to Orange County Rescue Mission, 1 Hope Drive, Tustin, CA 92782.
Donated goods will be distributed at the Christmas in July celebration at Village of Hope on Friday, July 26 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The event will provide Village of Hope residents with festive holiday food, winter-themed games, crafts and other fun activities.

According to Palmer, Orange County Rescue Mission’s Christmas in July event often generates more than $7,000 in food and supplies. “This event continues to highlight the generosity of our Orange County community,” says Palmer. “The items collected through this drive have a significant, positive impact on those in our community who need it most.”

The Village of Hope is located at 1 Hope Drive in Tustin, CA 92782. The Tustin Auto Center is located at Auto Center Drive in Tustin, CA 92782. The Chick-fil-A restaurant is located at 2889 Park Avenue in Tustin, CA 92782.
