Rep. Cisneros’ statement on passage of Senate Supplemental Appropriations

Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 3401, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act of 2019:

β€œIn good conscience, I could not vote for the Senate supplemental bill when it does not sufficiently address the humanitarian crisis at our southern border. We have an urgent moral responsibility to protect the health, dignity, and lives of immigrant children, and this bill does not adequately guarantee they are given the humanitarian aid and services they need. I could not support legislation that allows centers to waive requirements for services and does not provide for standards of medical care, food, water, and hygiene for these families. Proper oversight is needed to ensure that these children are not kept in inhumane conditions while they wait to be reunited with family members or sponsors.

β€œA comprehensive solution to address the fundamental problems with our immigration system is needed more than ever. We need smart investments that address our border security, but also put an end to the cruel and inhumane treatment of people because of their country of origin. I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to strengthen our border security, protect DREAMers, reunify families, and fight for our American values.”

  1. This is appalling. Congressman Cisneros and other Democrats are the cause of the border crisis and it could be fixed immediately if they would change the catch & release laws and deport everyone immediately upon entering illegally. If this man was really concerned about the welfare of people crashing our borders he would help build the wall and quit inviting non citizens into our country. It is apparent he does not want to solve this problem because he, along with his fellow liberals believe these are future Democratic voters entering. If these were potential Republican voters, this problem would have be cleared up years ago. Shame on the Democrats using these poor people as pawns by dangling free stuff to all who enter. Paid by by taxpayer money, the only money government has to offer.
