Rocking and rolling for the Fourth of July

We were eating brunch when Dalton’s began to rock and roll. Everyone in the restaurant paused for a moment to assess the quality and magnitude, then went back to eating and talking after cracking a joke or two.

Once the USGS website became accessible, here is the information we gleaned:

Magnitude 6.4 12 km southwest of Searles Valley in the Mojave Desert around 10:30 a.m. Lots of smallish aftershocks between 3 and 4 in magnitude.

Searles Valley is next to Searles Lake, and northeast of Ridgecrest, and about 180 miles from our location in northwest Orange County.
