Today, Orange County Supervisor Michelle Steel announced that she has received the California Republican Party endorsement for the 48th congressional district. The early endorsement by the California Republican Party – nearly 7 months before the primary election – clearly positions Michelle Steel to be the odds-on favorite to face liberal Democrat Harley Rouda in the general election.
“Michelle Steel is a dynamic leader and a proven conservative who, for over a decade, has led the fight to protect California taxpayers,” said Jessica Millan Patterson, Chairwoman of the California Republican Party. “Republicans across the state can trust Michelle Steel to be a strong taxpayer advocate in Congress.”
The California Republican Party endorsement caps off a strong month of July for the Steel campaign, which announced the endorsements of former Rep. Ed Royce, U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, and five of Orange County’s county-wide elected officials in recent weeks. July’s FEC reporting deadline also showed that Steel raised the 4th highest amount amongst Republican challenger candidates in the country during the FEC’s 2nd quarter.
In 2018, Steel was overwhelmingly re-elected to represent Orange County’s 2nd supervisorial district with 63.4% of the vote. The 2nd supervisorial district overlaps 66% of California’s 48th congressional district and is solely in Orange County.
The 48th district encompasses all or portions of Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, and Westminster.
