The Ocean View School District will host a Grand Re-Opening Event at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, at Westmont Elementary School to celebrate the newly modernized Westmont Elementary Visual and Performing Arts Academy. The event, which will include members of the District, school, and community, will feature guest speakers, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and guided tours of the site.
“We are excited to host the Grand Re-Opening of the first school site modernized using Measure R General Obligation
Bond funds,” said Dr. Carol Hansen, Superintendent. “Westmont, originally built in 1962, has undergone significant improvements to maximize the learning experiences for students attending the innovative elementary Visual and Performing Arts Academy. We are thrilled to showcase the facility and look forward to watching students flourish in this special place.”
Westmont’s brightly colored campus has new infrastructure, cabinetry, windows, flooring, and specialized rooms for dance, band, and art. The multi-purpose room is equipped with new stage lighting, curtains, and flexible seating.
Each wing of the campus is identified by the name of a famous artist, including Walt Disney, Vincent van Gogh, and Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition, one wing of the campus has been modified to welcome preschoolers, featuring age-appropriate furniture, restrooms, and a sparkling new playground apparatus. OVSD is proud to offer an inclusive preschool program, serving both special needs and general education students.
