City Commissioner Susan Sonne announces candidacy for Buena Park City Council

Buena Park residents are eager for a city hall that connects with them. We the residents have been raising our voices, asking for help which should be funded by tourism tax revenue going into our aging neighborhoods. I have been there for you for years, including successfully bringing free trees to residents, helping open a neighborhood resource center, and advocating for solutions to assist those experiencing homelessness. We are making real improvements, but there is more work to be done.

I continue to be motivated by our community stepping up, and believe we deserve better representation. I am inspired by our community to announce my candidacy for Buena Park City Council, District 3, and am grateful to be supported by city council members, city commissioners, school board members, legislators, and – most importantly – many residents.

As your Council Member, I will work for you – to create better activities for our seniors and youth, to bring both affordable housing and better paying jobs, and to reimagine the Buena Park Mall. We need current parks that are safer and new small parks that are walking distance in all neighborhoods. Both innovation – as well as welcoming ideas – must be a priority at city hall, including using new technologies to educate and seek feedback from residents on upcoming city council decisions that will impact us all.

As the Executive Director for the Buena Park Collaborative, a volunteer with the Buena Park Resource Center, and the Chair of the Buena Park Beautification-Environmental Commission, I have invested years becoming an expert on resident needs and finding real solutions to help people. During my service on both the Buena Park Homeless Committee and the Police Chief’s Advisory Board, I have learned and fought for safer streets, including new ways to prevent property crime, help at-risk youth, ensure cleaner water, and improve both parking and code enforcement.

I am excited to meet you, whether it be on at a local community event, the grocery store, or your doorstep during the campaign. I am running to be your resident-focused voice with a real impact. I ask for your support to become your City Council Member.
