Electrical power demand forecasts shortfall this afternoon

According to current forecasts by the California Independent System Operator (Cal ISO), today’s peak demand for electricity of 43,618 megawatts will exceed forecast available capacity of 40,417 megawatts sometime around 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Cal ISO recommends that individual users of electricity lower the actual demand by following some simple steps:

  • Set your air conditioner to 78° or higher, if health permits
  • Postpone using major appliances until after 9:00 p.m.
  • Turn off all unnecessary lights
