According to current forecasts by the California Independent System Operator (Cal ISO), today’s peak demand for electricity of 43,618 megawatts will exceed forecast available capacity of 40,417 megawatts sometime around 3 p.m. this afternoon.
Cal ISO recommends that individual users of electricity lower the actual demand by following some simple steps:
- Set your air conditioner to 78° or higher, if health permits
- Postpone using major appliances until after 9:00 p.m.
- Turn off all unnecessary lights

Energy demand is expected to peak between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The forecast calls for demand to fall below peak capacity by about 8 p.m.
