Bright Star’s a surprising hit at the GEM Theatre

OC local talent and Woman of the year LA TIMES Woman of the Year 2017 awardee Nicole Cassesso is the amazing driving force in this musical production Bright Star along with behind the scenes musical direction of partner Damien Lorton. The cast is superb. Once again, Nicole’s acting talent and fantastic voice shines through at the Garden Grove landmark GEM Theatre. It is so refreshing to witness the talented cast onstage dancing and singing their way through a gorgeous musical.

The book and true story conceived by comedian/actor Steve Martin with music and lyrics by popular songwriter Edie Brickell is emotionally riveting. It tells the story of love and redemption set against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the 20’s and 40’s era. Backed by a talented live bluegrass band, the fascinating cast will take you on a trip to musical paradise where love lives and learn.

Thanks to the creative genius of award winning Damien Lorton whose student roster is impressive due to the fact that former students are winning accolades in various musical productions country-wide. The hard-working Gem staff is celebrating 15 years of theatre.

I have seen several productions including Patsy Cline’s Always, Nine, Cabaret, Grease, among others. and it was superlatively performed. The intimate setting of the small theatre is just right. Each time I congratulate Damien and Nicole during the break, they exhibit a refreshing humility and wonder in awe of their loyal OC fans coming in droves to every venue. Nicole is the co-founder along with Damien Lorton of One More Productions. Both have produced over 60 award-winning theatrical productions and special events including co-creating and writing the audience’s favorite “The Holiday Gem”.

We should feel blessed that we have this musical duo and their talented co-stars giving us the best of the best right here in our backyard in beautiful Orange County where people live, love and enjoy music at its finest.

Thanks to the GEM Theatre. Goodbye Hollywood…Damien and Nicole have got it covered. OC musical fans are basking in the glorious musical productions at the GEM.

May God bless the GEM Theatre now and forever.
