This was the first time that St. Irenaeus Church has celebrated a Fiesta in the Fall instead of during the Summer or Spring months. At the 9:45 mass on September 29, 2019, Fr. Binh Nguyen, pastor of St. Irenaeus Church, thanked everyone who helped to make this year’s Fiesta even more successful than in past Fiestas that were held in the Summer months. Fr. Binh especially thanked the Fiesta Co-Chairs for this year, Jason and Kyeli Roberts and Kit and Patti Kirby, and the members of the Fiesta Committee, for all their hard work. He also thanked everyone who volunteered their time or donated funds for the Fiesta. Fr. Binh said he was already looking forward to having another Fiesta at St. Irenaeus Church next Fall.
With the Fiesta being held over three days on September 20, 21, and 22, Patti Kirby, one of the Co-chairs of the Fall Fiesta, said that 10,000 or more people may have come to the Fiesta during those three days. Some people came to enjoy all the 12 Carnival rides, games for young and young at heart, different ethnic foods, hot and cold drinks, desserts, Bingo games, and bid on Silent Auctions. Other people came to listen to a variety of entertainment groups that performed throughout the days and nights. There were groups that sang blues, country or western songs, rock and roll songs, music from the 90’s, and even a hula group that performed hulas. A favorite group that performed on Saturday evening was the Knyght Ryder band who performed music from the 80’s.
Many parishioners and community members helped to raise funds for scholarships for students at St. Irenaeus School, and for St. Irenaeus Church ministries, by buying opportunity tickets to win cash prizes. Drawing prize winners were announced in the St. Irenaeus Church bulletin on Sunday, September 29, 2019, and information was distributed at all the masses that weekend. Congratulations are extended to the winners of the following prizes: Grand Prize Winner of $10,000, Linda Kusuda; First Prize Winner of $3,000, Carl Willfond; Second Prize Winner of $1,500, Josie Jakosalem; and Third Prize Winner of $500, Arianne Huffman. St. Irenaeus Church thanks everyone who participated in purchasing opportunity tickets.
A final accounting of all expenses has not been made as of this date to determine what the final proceeds will be, but the Fiesta Committee anticipates a positive financial outcome. The Fiesta Committee would like to acknowledge and thank all the generous donors who contributed funds or sponsored a booth. The donors included: Platinum Sponsor: Home Depot; Gold Sponsors: La Capilla, AT&T, and 24 Hour Fitness; Silver Sponsors: Howard’s Coffee Shop, Viele & Sons, Forest Lawn, the Virgil Family, and Greg Provost; Bronze Sponsors: Anne Nieto, Anna Piercy, Joe Tucciarone, Visiting Angels, Pho May, OC Breeze, California Auto Care, Dr. Armi M. Alian, MD, No Nonsense Termite & Pest, Filipino Catholic Federation, Leslie Wintheiser, and Cypress Police Officers Association.
The Fiesta Committee would like to thank O Entertainment company, who provided the game booths, and Guadagno & Sons Amusements, who provided 12 carnival rides. The game booths and carnival rides attracted many people to come to the Fiesta. The rides were so inviting that on Saturday, a young couple, who got married at St. Irenaeus Church that day, got on a swing ride. The bride was dressed in her wedding gown and held her wedding bouquet, and the groom was wearing his tuxedo.
The Fiesta Committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make St. Irenaeus’ First Fall Fiesta a great success. It took the whole parish, local businesses, and members of surrounding communities working together to raise the funds that will help St. Irenaeus School students and the ministries of St. Irenaeus Church. The Fiesta Committee would also like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and talent to help at the Fiesta. The Fiesta would not have taken place if there were no volunteers.
