Highway Patrol involved in pursuit that started in Upland, ended on Beach Blvd.

On October 12, 2019 at approximately 0424 hours the Upland Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota Scion for an equipment violation. The driver did not yield and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit entered westbound I-10, where CHP (California Highway Patrol) units assumed the pursuit from Upland P.D. The pursuit traversed several LA County area freeways before entering southbound Interstate 405 and exiting at Beach Boulevard.

The driver continued north on Beach Boulevard where his vehicle became disabled in traffic lanes. It was later determined that the driver likely sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident remains under investigation. Identification of the driver is pending at this time.
