Congressman Rouda’s statement on the passing of Chairman Elijah E. Cummings

Congressman Harley Rouda (CA-48), Chair of the Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Environment, issued the following statement after the passing of Chairman Elijah E. Cummings, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform:

Said Rouda, “It has been one of the great honors of my life to serve under the leadership of Chairman Cummings. His unwavering moral clarity and steadfast faith in his community have made Congress, and our entire country, a more just nation.

My most poignant memory of Chairman Cummings was during a discussion of H.R. 1 – which addresses voting rights. In his incredible voice, he shared with us that his mother, on her deathbed, told him, ‘don’t ever let them take away our vote again.’

Although he is gone, his words won’t fade from my memory. I will fight to ensure that the House Oversight Committee, Congress, and our country upholds his vision of an America where all have a voice.

My thoughts are with Chairman Cummings’s family, staff, and constituents.

May he rest in power.”

  1. I have been searching for just one decent common sense Dem. for a second today when you were on Fox I thought I was seeing one but…..you just could not man up and give President Donald Trump the credit he deserves for getting Bagdaddi. He is smarter and cares more about We The People than all you DemocRat thugs out to cause grief and socialism for the USA. You all think impeachment is hurting Trump, get your nose out of the leftist goofball pot smoking idiots running for President . LBJ ended me being a Dem, too crooked for me.

  2. How ironic that the beneficiary of vote harvesting cites Cummings’ mother’s words “don’t ever let them take our vote away again.” Too bad that doesn’t seem to apply in the 48th district. We elected Dana Rohrabacher. But unscrupulous Dems took our vote away.
