Dominican Formation Day deepens love for culture of St. Catherine’s Academy between students, staff

St. Catherine’s Academy (SCA) participated in its 12th Annual Dominican Formation Day on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. It was a day filled with reflection, team building activities and fellowship. The annual tradition brought together more than 160 students and 70 employees of St. Catherine’s Academy to learn more about SCA’s Dominican Charism Pillars and Mission.

There were no classes in session on this day. Both students and staff participated. Participants were grouped into the academy’s 4 companies – Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. Each company was designated to a Dominican Saint and wore matching headbands representing a specific pillar of the Dominican charism, which included: community, ministry, study, and prayer. Formation Day focused on the pillars that create a faith-filled community for individuals of all faiths, regardless of their own spiritual traditions.

The day was full of team building exercises encouraging collaboration and teamwork. The activities were led by the Dominican Sisters, military personnel, athletic director and students in leadership positions. In the afternoon, students and staff enjoyed a delicious BBQ prepared by the kitchen staff and served by parents. The day ended with a powerful reflection in SCA’s St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel led by Sister Johnellen, OP, SCA Administrator, Principal. Students were engaged answering questions and singing songs.

“Dominican Formation Day is such an important day for the entire school to come together as a Domincan family,” said Sister Johnellen, OP, SCA Administrator, Principal. “Our students and staff gain so much from this wonderful experience and it has been a tradition for more than a decade.”
