Dr. Lisa Sparks called on Elizabeth Warren protégé Katie Porter to denounce her mentor’s pledge to ban federal funding of charter schools. Porter, a former law school student of Senator Elizabeth Warren’s, recently endorsed Warren for President but has yet to publicly comment on her mentor’s radical education plan that would raise taxes and ban federal funding of new charter schools.
“I’m not a career politician. I’m an educator, researcher, and concerned mother who entered local politics to make a difference because Orange County’s students and families deserve better,” said Dr. Lisa Sparks, who was elected to the Orange County Board of Education Trustee last year. “As a Trustee, I’ve fought to promote charter schools and school choice because they are instrumental components of Orange County’s education system and parents value these options and opportunities for their children.”
“I hope Katie Porter won’t continue to follow the liberal status quo and will join me in denouncing Warren’s radical education plan because charter schools provide invaluable opportunities to learn in new and innovative ways and establish much needed accountability ensuring that student interests are above those of unions.”
Dr. Sparks currently serves as the Trustee of the Orange County Board of Education’s 5th district, which overlaps 35% of the 45th congressional district. Sparks won her race overwhelmingly and was the top vote-getter earning 56.8% of the vote, with over 80,000 votes, in a field of five candidates.
California’s 45th congressional district was formerly represented by U.S. Representative Mimi Walters and includes the cities and communities of Coto de Caza, Irvine, Tustin, Lake Forest, Laguna Woods, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Villa Park, and portions of Anaheim and Orange.
