Rep. Cisneros’ statement on continuing resolution to fund the government

Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1865, the Further FY 2020 Continuing Appropriations and Health Extenders Act, to prevent a government shutdown and fund the government through December 20th.

“While we await the Senate to take action on our House-passed appropriations packages, it is critical that we keep the government open,” said Rep. Cisneros. “We must provide certainty and avoid the threat of a government shutdown. This bill not only provides a path forward to fund government operations, but it also devotes critical funding for a fair and accurate Census operation, extends funding for Community Health Centers, prevents cuts to vital highway construction projects in California, and gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise. I look forward to the President signing this into law as we work towards a larger package to fully fund our government.”

The continuing resolution provides a funding extension through December 20th. It also:

  • Provides full funding for a fair and accurate Census by raising the rate of operations to the bipartisan Senate funding level through the duration of the continuing resolution;
  • Includes an extension of expiring healthcare programs, including for Community Health Centers, the National Health Service Corps, and the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Program;
  • Prevents cuts to the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, including nearly $693 million in construction projects in California, as Rep. Cisneros requested in a letter to leadership last week; and
  • Funds a 3.1 percent military pay raise.
