Do you like your home decor sleek and modern, or do you prefer cottage charm?
Design aficionados will get a taste of both at the Rossmoor Holiday Home Tour, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday Dec. 8.
The Rossmoor Woman’s Club has been organizing the annual event for more than 30 years, and all net proceeds go to fund college scholarship for Los Alamitos High School students and to support local charities including We Care, The Youth Center, Bikers Against Child Abuse, Precious Life Shelter, St. Isidore Community Center, Fix Long Beach and more.
This year, five beautifully remodeled and seasonally decorated homes will be open for self-guided tours. Among other things, visitors will see creative use of space in an open floorplan style that includes a hidden mud room. Another house has a glassed-in music room off the entry and a tucked-away niche under the stairs for the family pooch. Another is set in an arboretum-like garden and has a kitchen that preserves original brass hardware from the 1950s and other nostalgic touches. Some of the homes are elaborate collaborations between homeowners and contractors; one is almost all DIY. And all are full of ideas on how to decorate for the holidays.
Ticket-holders are also invited to a tea room at the North Seal Beach Community Center, where there will be free cookies, coffee and tea and live holiday music, in addition to a raffle featuring a number of prize baskets. Christmas crafts and decor will be for sale, too, at the Rossmoor Woman’s Club’s Christmas Shop and from several other vendors.
Also, make time to stop by Antica Olive Oil, Vinegar and Spices between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Antica is usually closed on Sundays but will open during the tour for holiday cheer and seasonal shopping. A portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated to the Rossmoor Woman’s Club.
Tickets include addresses of all the homes and a map, and they must be shown to gain entry. They may be purchased in advance for $20 from any club member or at one of the businesses listed below. They also may be purchased for $21 online at rossmoorwomansclub.com or for $25 the day of the tour at the North Seal Beach Community Center, 3333 Seal Beach Blvd., in the Shops at Rossmoor. (Note, tickets purchased online must be picked up the day of the tour at the Community Center; they will not be mailed.)
