Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39), released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act. The Act restores the original Voting Rights Act and would protect jurisdictions that have experienced repeated voting rights violations in the past 25 years. Rep. Cisneros is an original co-sponsor of the legislation.
“The right to vote is one of the most sacred rights and responsibilities we have as citizens of the United States,” said Rep. Gil Cisneros. “When I served in the Navy and when I was elected to the House of Representatives in January, I swore a sacred oath to uphold our Constitution, and that includes defending the right to vote. The Voting Rights Advancement Act ensures all Americans will have a clear path to the ballot box and make their voices heard. When more people are able to participate, our Democracy is that much stronger.”
Rep. Cisneros is a Navy veteran and serves on the House Armed Services Committee and House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Rep. Cisneros is also an original co-sponsor of H.R. 1, the For the People Act, which implements vital protections to our election infrastructure and expands voting rights.
