Musco Center, in association with LA Opera presents Roberto Devereux in Concert, with LA Opera Orchestra, Chorus, & Principals conducted by Eun Sun Kim on Tuesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m.
One of three masterworks by Gaetano Donizetti inspired by British history, the production features a principal cast of international stars with full chorus and orchestra.
The opera, with libretto by Salvadore Cammarano, is loosely based on the historical court intrigues that led to the execution of Devereux, an ill-fated lover of Queen Elizabeth I. Roberto Devereux premiered in 1837 at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
Eun Sun Kim conducts the concert production, which is directed by Stephen Lawless. Choreography is by Nicola Bowie, and Grant Gershon directs the chorus.
The principals are Davinia Rodríguez as Queen Elizabeth I; Ramón Vargas as Robert Devereux; Quinn Kelsey as the Duke of Nottingham; Alice Coote as Sara, Duchess of Nottingham; Anthony Ciaramitaro as Lord Robert Cecil; and Michael J. Hawk as Sir Walter Raleigh, with Steve Pence and Abdiel Gonzalez.
