2020 OC Cherry Blossom Festival

Celebrate Spring and Japanese culture at Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Orange County

Welcome the warmer weather and period of renewal with a celebration of Japanese and Japanese American culture at the sixth annual Orange County Cherry Blossom Festival taking place March 13 – 15 in Huntington Beach.

The three-day festival that begins with a night market on Friday March 13, will see thousands gather at Huntington Beach’s Central Park to celebrate the blossoming trees and spring’s arrival and Japanese culture in Southern California.

The Orange County Cherry Blossom Festival provides the community with an exciting opportunity to see the Japanese culture up close and to feel connected through various performances and demonstrations. The sixth annual festival will offer a family-friendly, moving weekend filled with music, drums, dance troupes, sake tasting, martial arts demonstrations and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience Japanese cuisine through various vendors and merchants.

Performing at this year’s festival is the Anjo Cultural Association Dance Group, which is an authentic Noh Mai dance group. Other entertainers include the Jingu Sha Troupe, who will use Koto and Sangen instruments, Akai Kouyou who will perform traditional shamisen and song and Sakurai Tako Hozonkai, or Sakurai Kite Preservation Group. Each performance group works to conserve their practices for generations to come and is a unique cultural staple in the local Mikawa Anjo region.

The Orange County Cherry Blossom Festival was inspired by and honors Huntington Beach’s very own sister city, Anjo, Japan. The festival raises funds to directly support a youth exchange program, sending local students to Japan to experience the culture of Anjo first-hand. In return, local families host Japanese students who gain a better understanding of our local community and way of life. Huntington Beach’s connection to Anjo, Japan dates back to 1982 and the Sister City program was officially incorporated in 1992, forever connecting the two cities and their traditions.

The Cherry Blossom Festival hours are Friday, March 13 from 5 – 9pm, Saturday March 14 from 10am – 9pm and Sunday March 15 from 10am – 4pm. The festival will take place at Central Park, 7111 Talbert St. in Huntington Beach. Single day admission tickets will be on sale for $5 and weekend passes will be on sale for $10. Admission tickets will be available for purchase online and at the event. Attendance for children 10 and under and seniors 65 and over will be free.
