Mayor Johnson’s speech showed the history of Cypress detailing the City’s accomplishments since its incorporation and more recently. One focal point of his speech was public safety. In 2019, overall crime in Cypress dropped 12% from the previous year, including a 30% drop in burglaries and 11% drop in automobile thefts. Other important accomplishments shared by Mayor Johnson included the new sports park at Cerritos Avenue and Lexington Drive, the inaugural Salute to America Event, the Cypress City Center mixed-used project and the City’s new smartphone app called Cypress Central. Mayor Johnson also highlighted the city’s history of fiscal sustainability and partnerships with the business community, highlighted by the presentation of the annual Business of the Year awards.

The first recipient was Forest Lawn, recognized for their strong commitment to the community. For more than 100 years Forest Lawn has served families in Southern California providing outstanding service and beautiful environments for family outings, remembering loved ones, and commemorating holidays. Their support for local non-profit organizations, active membership in the Chamber of Commerce and committing as a 2020 Cypress Senior Center Diamond Sponsor are among Forest Lawn’s notable commitments to Cypress.

The second award recipient was ENO, a long-time member of the Cypress community celebrating over 30 years in business. From its humble beginnings at a local weekend swap meet, to ultimately building a global enterprise, ENO focuses on partnership with premium fashion brands and private labels. In the spirit of community, ENO Cares was established as the company’s giving arm, focused on education for the most vulnerable children across the globe, especially young girls.

The third recipient of the Business of the Year award was H2Go Express Car Wash. Their mission is to efficiently deliver the highest quality exterior car wash in southern California while conserving water and using earth-friendly chemicals, providing the community with an exceptional value, superb services and an unparalleled experience. H2Go Express Car Wash is a proud member of Watersavers, a national program that recognizes professional car washes for water conservation and environmental protection. They have transformed a blighted property located at one of Cypress’ major intersections, Valley View and Ball, into a successful new car wash business.

Mayor Johnson concluded the event by highlighting the city’s fiscal sustainability, infrastructure improvements, and dedication to the use of technology as a way to connect and interact with the community.
