KNBC, KTLA Los Angeles take top TV newscast honors at 2020 Golden Mikes®

It was a big night for Los Angeles television KNBC, as it won the awards for “Best 60 Minute Newscast,” and “Best 30 Minute Newscast” at the 70thth Annual Golden Mike Awards® show Saturday night in Universal City. KTLA won the award for “Best Daytime Newscast.” KBAK, Bakersfield won the “Best Daytime Newscast” Golden Mie for small market stations.

KNX, Los Angeles won the Golden Mike for “Best Radio Newscast 15 Minutes or Longer” for a major market station, while KPCC won for “Best Newscast Less Than 15 Minutes.” KMJ, Fresno won the award for “Best Newscast Less Than 15 Minutes” among smaller staff sized stations.

Longtime network News Anchor Shepard Smith was honored with the Radio & Television News Association’s “Broadcast Legend” award. During his more than two decades at Fox, Smith covered virtually every major international and national story.

KNBC Sports Anchor Fred Roggin won a “Lifetime Achievement Award.” He’s been on the air for 40 years at NBC4, anchoring sportscasts, Olympics play by play coverage, and his own Sunday night sports show.

Also winning a “Lifetime Achievement Award” was KMEX’s Norma Roque, who has been reporting for KMEX for two decades. She’s one of the most recognizable faces in Spanish-language television.

The Golden Mike Awards are presented annually by the RTNA, a nonprofit organization representing broadcast news professionals throughout Southern California. RTNA coordinates TV pool coverage of major news events in the region, fights for freedom of information causes, and provides scholarships for the next generation of broadcast journalists.
