Seal Beach Police arrest sexual battery suspect

A male suspect was arrested by the Seal Beach Police Department after the entered a local business and groped the female victim’s buttock.

On Sunday, March 8, 2020, at about 11:23 am, the Seal Beach Police Department received a call of a sexual battery which had just occurred. The incident took place at the HomeGoods department store located at 12343 Seal Beach Boulevard.

Just prior to the time of call, the female victim was inside the store shopping. She was approached by the suspect who grabbed her buttock. At the time of the battery, the victim was accompanied by her infant child. The victim feared for the safety of her child.

Another shopper witnessed the sexual battery and confronted the suspect. The suspect quickly fled the store and the victim and witness both called the police. A description of the suspect was provided to dispatchers and when officers arrived, they located a subject matching the description a short distance away.

The suspect was identified as Ruben Erick Diaz, age 39, of Rialto, California. He was arrested without incident for sexual battery and child endangerment. The suspect was processed at the Seal Beach Detention Center and later booked at the Orange County Jail.
