Orange County Probation Department employee tests positive for COVID-19

Last night, April 9, 2020, the Orange County Probation Department received confirmation that an employee tested positive for COVID-19. The Department was able to identify the staff member as an individual assigned to one of the agency’s juvenile facilities. The employee last worked on Friday, April 3, 2020. To date, the staff member is self-quarantined and stable at home. The Department has not received official notification of any other staff member or youth housed in any of its juvenile facilities testing positive for COVID-19.

The Department has sent out notification to all youth, the youths’ parents/guardians, and all department staff members who may have been exposed to the staff member. Parents/Guardians were provided guidance as to whom should be contacted for additional information concerning the health/welfare of their children. Staff were asked to follow health recommendations including, but not limited to, monitoring temperature and checking for certain symptoms for a period no less than 14 days, frequent hand washing, and social distancing.

The Department will continue to follow the guidance from Orange County Health Care Agency (HCA) to keep all individuals at its facilities safe. In response to the rapidly developing changes surrounding COVID-19, the Department has increased the daily cleaning and sanitation at each facility. The facilities staff and youth are practicing social distancing and are washing their hands frequently.
