I-405 Improvement Project construction alert: Week of April 13

Governor Newsom has issued a “stay at home” executive order to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Construction of public transportation projects is considered an essential service and is exempt from this order. Work will continue on the I-405 Improvement Project as scheduled.

NEW! Daytime Closures of Northbound (NB) I-405 off-ramp to South Coast Drive

Crews are scheduled to close the NB I-405 off-ramp to South Coast Drive during the day for approximately two weeks.

Daily closures are set for:

  • Thursday, April 16, to Thursday, April 30

UPDATE! Northbound (NB) Full Freeway Closure for Bushard Street bridge falsework construction

Crews are constructing falsework for the Bushard bridge over I-405 in Fountain Valley.

This work requires full NB ramp, lane and freeway closures of I-405 between Slater Avenue and Warner Avenue

Nightly closures are set to continue through Wednesday, April 22, 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on weeknights.*

*Lanes will be reduced on SB I-405, between Warner Avenue and Slater Avenue.

Northbound freeway closures were postponed due to the rain.

UPDATE! Southbound (SB) Full Freeway Closure for Bushard Street bridge falsework construction

Crews are constructing falsework for the Bushard bridge over I-405 in Fountain Valley.

This work requires full SB ramp, lane and freeway closures of I-405 between Warner Avenue and Slater Avenue

Nightly closures are set to begin Thursday, April 23, 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for approximately one week on weeknights.

*Lanes will be reduced on NB I-405, between Slater and Warner.

NEW! Westminster Boulevard bridge to close nightly

Crews are scheduled to close the Westminster Boulevard bridge over I-405 to install a water line.

Nightly closures are set for Monday, April 20, to Friday, April 25, 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.

REMINDER! NB I-405 loop off-ramp to Westminster Boulevard closed for ONE YEAR

Crews closed the NB I-405 loop off-ramp to Westminster Boulevard. The ramp will be closed for approximately 12 months to allow construction of new walls and ramps at this location in one stage, eliminating multiple traffic shifts and confusion for motorists.

COMING SOON! NB I-405 off-ramp to Seal Beach Boulevard to close for approximately one month

The NB I-405 off-ramp to Seal Beach Boulevard is scheduled to close for approximately one month beginning in May. The ramp will be reconstructed as part of the freeway widening.

The SB I-405 on-ramp from Edinger is scheduled to close for approximately one month in May. The ramp will be reconstructed as part of the freeway widening.

Construction Activities

Goldenwest Street

Crews are scheduled to continue utility work on the Goldenwest Street bridge over I-405.

This work requires nightly lane reductions on Goldenwest, between Sowell Avenue and Bolsa Avenue.

  • Ongoing 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights

Talbert Avenue

Crews are continuing pile installation activities for the foundation of the new Talbert bridge.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for approximately one week on weekdays
