Rep. Rouda creates Coastal Orange County Aircraft Noise Mitigation Task Force

Congressman Rouda (CA-48) held the inaugural meeting of the newly-formed Coastal Orange County Aircraft Mitigation Noise Task Force. The task force brings together local elected officials and representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), SNA Airport, and major airlines to decrease airplane noise and improve community collaboration.

“For years, coastal Orange County residents have raised concerns regarding disruptive airplane noise,” said Rouda. “I am proud to bring together key stakeholders to enact meaningful change and improve the quality of life for thousands of Orange County families living under flight paths. Thank you to community activists and residents for their tireless work and task force members for their commitment to participating in the airplane noise conversation.”

The Coastal Orange County Aircraft Mitigation Noise Task Force is composed of:

  • U.S. Representative Harley Rouda
  • Councilman Jeff Herdman, City of Newport Beach (designated by Mayor Will O’Neill, City of Newport Beach)
  • Mayor Lyn Semeta, City of Huntington Beach
  • Mayor Katrina Foley, City of Costa Mesa
  • Mayor Bob Whalen, City of Laguna Beach
  • Mayor Laurie Davies, City of Laguna Niguel
  • Representatives from SNA
  • Representatives from air carriers operating out of SNA
  • Representatives from FAA

Rep. Rouda will conduct a series of task force meetings to discuss and identify potential solutions to address aircraft noise concerns in coastal Orange County communities.

  1. Seems to me at this time we’ve much larger challenges to address in lieu of airport noise and putting greater restrictions on a nationally critical industry and service. Of all years, now, and the next 5, isn’t when we should be attacking air travel. We need to be providing breaks and support to our businesses to get our district back working.

    1. Jim Buchanan, aircraft noise has been a huge problem in Huntington Beach from low flying aircraft at 1,000 feet over residential neighborhoods into Long Beach airport. Harley, excellent job creating this task force!

      1. Craig,

Thank you for reading Orange County Breeze. and for taking the time to comment on this article.

While I sympathize with residents under approach paths to local airports, I am forced to point out that the only airport invited to participate in Rep. Rouda’s task force would come from John Wayne Airport.

A task force meant to be more than merely an empty gesture should include all the airports. Long Beach, which you mention while patting Rep. Rouda on the back for an “excellent job,” has not been invited nor has Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos.

Again, thank you for reading Orange County Breeze.

      2. Craig, Just one question. Do you worry about aircraft noise when YOU fly? Honestly, have you given it any thought? Probably not. Fact is unless you DO NOT fly anywhere, for any reason, and bother other folks in other states and cities then you should not be trying to get rid of airports that provide a service that the MAJORITY of the world has come to rely on.
