Los Alamitos 2020 Council race shaping up

As of early Friday morning, two of three voting districts in Los Alamitos have more than a single candidate.

District 1 has the dubious distinction of seeing two incumbent candidates running: Tanya Doby and Dean Grose.

District 2 has two candidates who are not incumbents, Ron Bates and Kate Hallman.

District 3 currently has a single candidate, Jordan Nefulda. If no one else files to run in that voting district by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 7, the single candidate will be seated on the Council.

Incumbents Shelley Hasselbrink, representing District 4, and Mark Chirco, representing District 5, are not up for re-election this year.

The so-called Green district map was adopted by the Los Alamitos City Council on July 30, 2018. The general election in November 2020 was the first under the new voting districts. Only Districts 1 and 3 elected representatives.
