Senator Chang issues statement on being denied representation due to politics

Senator Ling Ling Chang (R-Diamond Bar) released the following statement after learning that all Republican Senators were barred from voting today:

“Since the beginning of this pandemic I have promoted and practiced safe, careful measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Today, despite my cautious actions, my fellow caucus members and I were denied the right to vote on over 30 bills and appointments.

“All Senators on the floor Monday were exposed to a member who tested positive for COVID. I, like all of my colleagues, was on the floor with him. The only other time I saw this Senator was at a caucus meeting, where I wore a mask and social distanced.

“I am disappointed Senate Leadership has not followed the precedence that we have seen earlier this year when the Capitol was shut down after two Assembly Members contracted COVID-19. Californians deserve representation in the Senate regardless of party affiliation. To forbid an entire caucus from voting when all members were exposed defies logic and robs my constituents of their voice. This should be about public health not politics.”

  1. This should be about public safety not about politics. This should not happen to our California assembly.
