Rouda leads bipartisan letter calling for lower prescription drug prices

Congressman Harley Rouda (D-CA-48), along with Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-WI-08), Jared Golden (D-ME-02), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01) sent congressional leadership a bipartisan proposal to lower prescription drug costs. The letter, sent to both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, outlines a common-sense strategy utilizing provisions from previously passed House and Senate legislation.

“Compromise in Washington could save American seniors over $20 billion in out-of-pocket prescription drug costs,” said Rouda. “Congressional leaders must find common ground and immediately pass common-sense solutions to lower astronomical drug costs. I joined Representatives Golden, Gallagher, and Fitzpatrick to put American families ahead of my political party — all leaders should join our bipartisan fight to lower drug costs.”

“Our constituents should not be forced to choose between managing their blood sugar and heating their home; between paying their hospital bill and paying their rent; or between treating their cancer and stocking their pantry,” the members wrote. “The status quo is a danger to public health, so it is time to ensure that Americans can afford their medications.”

Rouda and his colleagues identify five areas in the letter that form a compromise between the previous House and Senate legislation to address drug costs, including:

  • Increasing the availability of generic prescriptions;
  • Capping out-of-pocket expenses;
  • Standardizing Medicare Part D metrics;
  • Improving transparency on the consumer’s behalf; and
  • Requiring justifications for price spikes.

  1. Democrats make alot of promises when running for office and never keep them. Vote Trump 2020. Promises made and Promise kept. Probably could have gotten alot more done if the Democrats weren’t trying to down Trump with a made up Russian Collusion lie for the last 3 1/2 years. What a waste of time. Now Brennan is trying to hide and cover his @ss. Trump needs help in Washington D.C. Vote Michelle Steel 2020!

  2. Trump signed a executive order for prescription drug prices paid by USA citizens to match the lowest paid price for any socialist country in the world. The Communist countries are getting drugs cheaper than the USA citizens. The drug companies are crying like babies now that we the citizens get the same drug prices as a third world country. We don’t have to pay to subsidize the rest of the world like Rouda and the Democratic Party wants to do. Biden built China up now to where they are competing with the USA now. Why didn’t Obama, Biden and the Democratic Party lower taxes, deregulate the government so businesses can grow, etc….. when they were in power for 8 years. The economy is just the way it is stated Obama. He didn’t know how to get the economy going again because he was just a politician trying to make money off his position he held. And he did make alot of money by being a politician.
    Don’t Vote Biden or Rouda in again — they will ruin the economy Trump by raising taxes again and reregulating everything Trump overturned. Trump has done a lot of things to get the economy rolling that the liberal media never lets the public know. The Liberal media just reports on crap nobody with any common sense even cares about. Biden wants to raise taxes to the amount of $4 tillion dollars. A true politician and definitely not a business owner. Vote Trump 2020.
