Korean Community Services earns Nonprofit of the Year Award for Senate District 29

Senator Ling Ling Chang (R-Diamond Bar) recognized Orange County-based Korean Community Services (KCS) as the 2020 California Nonprofit of the Year for Senate District 29 at a Buena Park City Council meeting with Buena Park Mayor Fred Smith and Councilmembers Elizabeth Swift, Art Brown, Sunny Park, and Connor Traut. KCS also celebrates its 45th anniversary since its inception in 1975.

“From offering youth programs to taking care of senior citizens during this pandemic, Korean Community Services has been a valuable asset to our community for more than four decades,” said Senator Chang. “I have had the pleasure of partnering with KCS, Ellen, and her amazing team. I have seen the impact of the wonderful things they do for Orange County families and the comfort they provide for those who are in need. It is with tremendous pleasure that I recognize KCS as Nonprofit of the Year for the 29th Senate District ”

Since 1975, Korean Community Services has supported Korean American individuals, families, and the greater immigrant community by providing health and social services. This multi-service agency has since experienced exponential growth and broadened its scope to serve the general population at seven Orange County sites.

“From offering COVID-19 testing to providing emergency food and basic supplies during these unprecedented times, KCS has stepped up to the challenging needs during this pandemic,” said Ellen Ahn, Executive Director of KCS. “Even though our workload has more than doubled, it is truly our pleasure to serve the transforming needs of our community during this government-mandated shutdown. This year has been grueling, but incredibly rewarding in fulfilling our mission. We are truly grateful for this recognition and appreciate Senator Chang for recognizing our hard work and efforts this year.”

“During this shutdown, KCS has been instrumental in assisting these families to weather the pandemic,” said Fred Smith, Mayor of Buena Park. “I’m very grateful that they’re headquartered in Buena Park. The City of Buena Park is proud to join Senator Chang in recognizing KCS many contributions to the community.”
