Orange County’s Mayors: ‘Mask up to open up OC!’

If you thought masks weren’t cool in Orange County, think again.

All of Orange County’s 34 mayors have teamed up to send a message to residents, businesses and visitors: “Mask up to open up OC!”

The message comes in a video featuring Orange County’s mayors socially distant and masked up at iconic locations across Orange County.

Sites include Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, the Tustin Hangars, Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, Laguna Beach’s Festival of the Arts Amphitheater, Los Alamitos Race Course and Yorba Linda’s Birthplace of Richard Milhous Nixon.

The video drives home that across diverse Orange County, we all are all in this together and must work together to keep fighting coronavirus in our communities.

As Orange County’s COVID-19 case numbers and testing positivity rates continue a dramatic decline, we’re moving toward gradual reopening of more businesses and activities.

But, as we do so, wearing masks will be more important than ever to ensure we maintain our progress, keep our cases low and prevent another shutdown.

The OC mayors’ promotional video debuted Friday, Sept. 25 on social media throughout Orange County as well as on local TV stations.

The video is produced in partnership with the Orange County Mayors coalition and the Orange County School for the Arts.

  1. Disappointing to see so many, so-called leaders teaming up and caving in to non-science peer pressure. Especially Orange.

Most keep forgetting that if this infectious disease is truly all we are being told, nearly everyone will get it sooner or later.

Not allowing it to play out and happen sooner rather than later is just insanity.

  2. Afew days ago I was at a breakfast event held inside at a nearby venue and there were 100+ in the room with 8 to a table. We sat for more than an hour listening to speakers. No one wore masks except the servers. We didn’t have to wear masks because we would be eating, but that was more than an hour later. Guess the virus droplets knew that.

Last night wife and I ate at a local restaurant/bar. Every table inside and out full. Some plexiglass between tables. Sat talking with two other couples for 45 minutes while sipping drinks. Guess droplets knew not to bother us because we would eventually be eating.

Masks do not make sense and I won’t wear one except when I go into the supermarket. Usually take it off once inside.

  3. I wear a mask when I must go out. I want our numbers to stay low so kids can go back to school and small businesses can get more business.

  4. No…..
I have rarely worn a mask since March and won’t start wearing one now. The mask is solely for control as is social distancing. Nope!!!

    1. People like you are the reason we’re still locked down. Grow up or move to Arizona. You sound like a teenager.
