Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) denounced Senate Republicans for confirming Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court instead of passing coronavirus relief. While Senate Republicans rushed her nomination process in one month, the House passed two coronavirus stimulus packages, one on May 15th and the other on October 1st. On Friday, the United States hit its highest single-day number of coronavirus infections.
“Beginning with President Trump’s superspreader event in the Rose Garden, it took Senate Republicans 30 days to confirm Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Yet, they’ve refused to even consider two coronavirus stimulus packages, one that has been sitting in the Senate for 164 days. The American people need relief, but Sen. Mitch McConnell doesn’t think it’s a priority,” said Rep. Cisneros. “The Senate would rather rush through a Supreme Court nominee whose judicial record and philosophy threatens the Affordable Care Act, marriage equality, and a woman’s right to choose. This is not what the American people want, especially as over 60 million have already voted in this year’s election. Now more than ever, we need leaders who will protect healthcare, LGBTQ rights, and pro-choice policies. My opponent has never stood for those values, and has made it clear she’s not about to start any time soon. This is what’s at stake in this election.”
