Michelle Steel joins ribbon cutting event for opening of Cameron Lane Navigation Center in Huntington Beach

On November 2nd, Michelle Steel, Chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, joined with the Huntington Beach City Council, Mayor Lyn Semeta, shelter operator Mercy House, representatives from the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Office of Care Coordination, and other elected officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the Cameron Lane Navigation Center in Huntington Beach.

“The County of Orange is extremely proud to partner with the City of Huntington Beach and Mercy House in the development of the Cameron Lane site to serve those who are experiencing homelessness,” said Chairwoman Steel. “The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the needs of the homeless population and how the issue of homelessness is more than just about shelter; it is about addressing the needs of the whole person from shelter to mental health to physical health.”

The Cameron Lane Navigation Center will serve as a transitional shelter for Huntington Beach’s homeless population and will care for up to 174 homeless adults living in the city. Cameron Lane will allow clients to stay all day, provide 3 meals a day, have medical assistance as well as mental health and substance abuse programs, have on site laundry, showers and bathrooms, will have a dog run for people with pets and a shuttle service available for transportation in and out.

Further, it will ensure the security of the individuals staying in this facility as well as the surrounding community by accepting clients by referral only through City net, County and City Outreach, and local law enforcement. Background checks will be conducted on the clients before accepting them and the facility will not permit walk ups or walk offs and will strictly forbid sex offenders or individuals with active felony warrants.
