After we received reports of shelves stripped of toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning supplies at Costco and Target in Huntington Beach, Orange County Breeze sent out a field team to investigate locally in Cypress and Buena Park.

We found bare and almost-bare shelves at the Target on Katella Avenue in Cypress. Sterilizing wipes — gone. Paper towels — gone. Toilet paper — almost gone. (The featured graphic includes a photo of the toilet paper shelf at the Cypress Target.)

Signs were posted with the expected notice: Due to high demand, we are limiting purchase to 1 item per customer.

Okay then. People didn’t learn anything from last March and April?

The next stop on our highly non-comprehensive survey was a CVS pharmacy in Buena Park. No shortages! Lots of toilet paper.

Our last stop was at Albertsons. Some bare shelving (sterilizing wipes) but lots of other cleaning supplies, lots of paper towels, lots of toilet paper.

So somebody learned something from last March and April. Not everyone is panicking.

Look: conditions are different now. California is leading the way in lockdown stupidity but most of the rest of the country is still working. Supply chains are intact.

Everybody stay calm, take a couple of deep breaths (as best you can if you’re wearing a mask), and carry on.
