At its December 14 meeting, the Cypress City Council selected Jon Peat as Mayor and Stacy Berry as Mayor Pro Tem for 2021. Outgoing Mayor Rob Johnson and Mayor Pro Tem Mariellen Yarc were both recognized and presented with gifts of appreciation from the City and City Manager in honor of their eight years serving as Council Members.
Mayor Jon Peat is serving his second term on the Cypress City Council. During his first term on the City Council, he also served as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. Mayor Peat is a leader of the Cypress Champions Baseball program, 1st Vice Chair of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Anaheim-Cypress, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Cypress. Additionally, he serves as a volunteer for the Champions Club special needs ministry and as an elder at SeaCoast Grace Church.
Mayor Pro Tem Stacy Berry is serving her second term on the Cypress City Council. Mayor Pro Tem Berry holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from San Jose State University and a Certificate in Gerontology from Coastline Community College. Mayor Pro Tem Berry currently serves as President of Cypress Children’s Advocacy Council. She is a member of the Woman’s Club of Cypress and volunteers at the Cypress Senior Center. She also served on the Senior Citizens Commission, one term as Commission Chair, before being elected to the Cypress City Council.
Additionally, the City recognized newly elected Council Members Frances Marquez and Anne Hertz. Both were sworn in by City Clerk, Alisha Farnell on Monday afternoon and addressed the City with their acceptance speeches.
Frances Marquez has a Bachelor’s Degree from UCLA, and a Masters and Doctorate from Claremont Graduate University. Marquez has called Cypress home since 1974. She is an Associate Professor of Government at Gallaudet University, where she teaches deaf and hard-of-hearing students and helps them pursue careers in public service.
Anne Hertz is currently the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress-Anaheim’s President. Hertz has lived and worked in Cypress for 25 years, raising her children and serving the community through volunteerism.
