State Senator Umberg tells constituents of his appointment as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee

On January 8, 2021, California State Senator Tom Umberg sent out an announcement that he will chair the California State Senate Judiciary Committee.

Here is the text:

On Tuesday we discovered that our democracy is even more fragile than we could have ever imagined. We learned that we must strive every day to protect the democratic institutions that we hold sacred as Americans.

The new Legislative session starts on Monday and I wanted to let you know that I was recently honored by Senate President Pro Tem Atkins’ decision to appoint me Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

I am deeply humbled by her confidence in my leadership during these unprecedented times. The pandemic and the increasing costs of litigation have made access to justice even more challenging. In leading the Judiciary Committee, I plan to work diligently with my colleagues to consider thoughtful policy and meet the state’s challenges head-on. I will pursue California’s interests with the same determination towards justice I have demonstrated throughout my career.

As always, I am profoundly grateful for your support and welcome your thoughts and input.

I am ready to continue to work to make sure California is a more just state in 2021 and beyond.
