Seal Beach streamlines purchase, renewal of residential and guest parking permits

The City of Seal Beach has streamlined the process to purchase and renew residential and guest parking permits.

In December of 2020, the City of Seal Beach transitioned to a new online permit portal. The online permit platform can be accessed via the City’s website www.sealbeachca.gov or can be found here: https://sealbeach.permitinfo.net.

In 2014, the City Council recognized that parking conditions in Seal Beach had reached a low point with inconsistent parking rules and outdated systems. Over the course of these past six plus years the entire parking program in Seal Beach has been re-vamped to implement best practices regarding uniform signage and the implementation of upgraded technology to ease and improve how parking management is accomplished.

From the time the online permit portal was launched in December of last year, to January 26, 2021, we are proud to report approximately 1,338 passes have been issued to users via the online system. The Seal Beach Police Department estimates that approximately 100 people have sought assistance from us in completing the online permit process. The vast majority of issues reported to the SBPD were resolved in less than five minutes and tend to be minor in nature.

“The new system has streamlined the process for obtaining parking permits,” said Chief of Police Philip Gonshak. “We know there will be some growing pains as people learn to navigate the new website. Because of this, we want to ensure the community that we are here to help walk anyone through the process telephonically if need be and are happy to help.”

The City of Seal Beach’s online parking permit portal program has become the flagship program with other local cities modeling their own programs based on our successes.
