Lakewood: Help protect your home with the ‘9 p.m. Routine’

The Lakewood Sheriff’s Station reminds residents that many vehicle burglaries and thefts occur when items are left in plain view in a vehicle or when a door or window is left unlocked.

That’s why the ‘9 p.m. Routine’ is an easy and quick way to check that your property is secure.

Each evening at 9 p.m., follow these steps:

  • Remove any keys, wallets, cash, garage door openers and other valuables from vehicles, whether in the driveway, garage or parked on the street.
  • Check to be sure each vehicle is locked and all windows are tightly shut.
  • Close overhead garage doors.
  • Close and lock all doors and windows.
  • Turn on your home’s outside lights.
