UPDATE! Full Southbound (SB) and Northbound (NB) Freeway Closures for Edwards Street Falsework Installation

Crews will begin constructing falsework for the Edwards Street bridge over I-405 in early-February. This work requires full freeway closures of NB and SB I-405 between Bolsa Avenue and Westminster Boulevard.

The SB freeway closures are set for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:

  • Monday, Feb. 8 through Thursday, Feb. 11 and Tuesday, Feb. 16

The NB freeway closures are set for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 16 through Friday, Feb. 19
  • Monday, Feb. 22,
  • and again, Tuesday, Feb. 23

UPDATE! Magnolia Street Full Closure for Concrete Work

Crews will pour concrete for the Magnolia bridge over I-405. This work will require a full closure of the Magnolia bridge between Recreation Circle and Heil Avenue.

The closure is set for 9 p.m. to 6:30 am, Monday, Feb. 8 and Tuesday, Feb. 9, if needed.

REMINDER! Westminster Boulevard Bridge Partial Demolition

Crews will continue demolishing the second half of the Westminster bridge over I-405. The bridge will be partially demolished over one more night, under full freeway closures.

I-405 will be closed in each direction during nighttime demolition.

  • Night Two: 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7

Additional nighttime demolition will occur for several weeks under freeway lane closures. Some daytime demolition also is anticipated.

Dates and times may change due to unforeseen operational factors or inclement weather.

COMING SOON! Fairview Road Traffic Switch

A number of activities are scheduled over the next two weeks in anticipation of switching traffic onto the new half of the Fairview bridge.

Crews closed the Southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Fairview on. Jan. 31, for approximately ten days to accommodate the freeway widening and the upcoming traffic switch.

Activities and closure locations/times:

  • 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, to 5 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5: NB Fairview will be reduced to one lane and the NB Fairview off-ramp will be closed to allow crews to restripe the off-ramp to one lane.
    • Note: The NB off-ramp will be reduced to one lane for seven days. The ramp will be completely closed for 18 hours during this time frame – 12 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9.
  • 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, to 3 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11: Full closure of Fairview and all Fairview ramps to survey for k-rail and striping locations.
  • 5:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, to 6:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12:SB I-405/SR-73 on-ramp will be closed.
  • 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, to 6:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12:Full closure of Fairview and all Fairview ramps for k-rail and striping modifications.
    • Note: Traffic will be switched to the new bridge beginning at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12.

UPDATE! Full Northbound (NB) Freeway Closures for Talbert Falsework Removal

Crews will continue removing the falsework at the Talbert bridge over I-405. This work will require a NB full directional freeway closure between Brookhurst Street and Euclid Street.

NB full freeway closure is set to continue tonight at 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4.

Dates and times are subject to change due to unforeseen operation factors or inclement weather.

UPDATE! Bolsa Avenue Full Closure for Concrete Work

Crews will continue concrete work for a retaining wall along eastbound (EB) Bolsa Avenue. This work requires full closures of Bolsa between Goldenwest Street and Chestnut Street.

Nightly closures are set to continue tonight at 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights, for approximately three weeks.

A detour will be in place for pedestrians and bicyclists to navigate around the closure.

Additionally, crews anticipate to pour concrete for the retaining wall along the northbound (NB) I-405 loop off-ramp to Bolsa. This activity will require the NB I-405 loop off-ramp to close as early as Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4.

UPDATE! Full Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) Harbor Boulevard Closure for Concrete Work

Crews will resume pouring concrete for the widened I-405 bridge over Harbor. This work will require a full closure of Harbor between the I-405 ramps.

The closure is set to begin as early as 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, to 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5.

UPDATE! Talbert Avenue Bridge Work

Crews will continue construction of the Talbert Avenue bridge over the I-405. This work will require intermittent lane reductions at the intersection of Talbert and Ward Avenue and at Talbert and Brookhurst Street. Ongoing activities include traffic signal construction.

  • Ongoing 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, for approximately three weeks.

REMINDER! Nightly Southbound (SB) I-405 Freeway Closures for Bridge Work

Nightly SB I-405 closures are scheduled to continue for Brookhurst Street bridge construction. Activities include equipment mobilization, pile installation, shoring installation, falsework installation and grading, and column demolition for the old half of the Brookhurst bridge.

SB I-405 will be closed between Magnolia and Brookhurst.

The nightly closures are set to continue 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights for approximately three weeks, as needed.

REMINDER! Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) I-405 Freeway Lane Reductions for Pile Installation

Crews closed the inside lanes on the SB and NB I-405 between Beach Boulevard and Newland Street for approximately one month to advance pile installation activities for the Edinger Avenue bridge.

  • Daily daytime freeway lane closures are ongoing as early as 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., for approximately one week*, as needed.

*Note: crews anticipate extending the freeway lane closures.

REMINDER! Nightly Consecutive Ramp Closures Scheduled for Approximately Six Months

Nightly closures of the following ramps will be scheduled as needed until May 2021to support bridge construction activities at Magnolia and Brookhurst:

  • Southbound (SB) I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Magnolia
  • SB I-405 On-Ramp from Warner Avenue
  • SB I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Brookhurst

Closure hours are:

  • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights
  • 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekends

UPDATE! Southbound (SB) I-405 On-Ramp from Harbor Boulevard NOW OPEN!

The SB I-405on-ramp from Harbor Boulevard is now open to traffic.

REMINDER! Northbound (NB) I-405 On-Ramp from South Coast Drive/Hyland Avenue Closed for Approximately Two Months

Crews closed the NB I-405 on-ramp from South Coast Drive/ Hyland Avenue on Jan. 11, 2021 for approximately two months to accommodate the freeway widening.

Activities include demolition, excavation, grading, drainage and electrical system installation, concrete pours and paving.

REMINDER! Southbound (SB) I-405 Off-Ramp to Bolsa Chica Road Closed for Approximately One Year

Crews closed the SB I-405 off-ramp to Bolsa Chica Road on Dec. 3, 2020 for approximately one year to advance construction on the Bolsa Chica bridge.

Activities include demolition, excavation, grading, drainage and electrical system installation, concrete pours and asphalt paving.

Harbor Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of a wall adjacent to the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Harbor.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, for approximately two months.

Mobilization is set to take place from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Crews may also conduct activities at night.

Heil Avenue

REMINDER! Crews will continue installing piles for the foundation of the Heil Avenue pedestrian bridge over I-405.

  •  Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m. and some activities may occur at night.

REMINDER! Crews continue construction activities for the Heil pedestrian bridge over I-405. Activities include excavation, shoring, and pile driving to continue forming the foundation of the bridge.

Following this work, crews will begin forming the footings and columns, as well as construct the falsework to form the spans over the freeway.

This work requires an extended closure of Heil between Ross Lane and Landau Lane.

The closure began on Wednesday, Dec. 30, and is expected to continue for approximately seven months.

Residential access will be maintained at all times.

McFadden Avenue

COMING SOON! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of a retaining wall along the southbound (SB)
I-405 adjacent to College Park in late February.

Vermont Street

REMINDER! Crews will continue working on the foundation of the wall along southbound (SB) I-405, south of Bolsa Ave.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, for approximately three weeks.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m. and some activities may occur at night.

Goldenwest Street

UPDATE! Crews postponed installing piles for the foundation of Goldenwest bridge over I-405 along northbound and southbound I-405, adjacent to Goldenwest.

Westminster Boulevard

NEW! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of a new retaining wall along the northbound (NB) Westminster on-ramp adjacent to Milton Avenue.

The pile driving activities are anticipated to begin as early as Monday, Feb. 8, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m. and some activities may occur at night.

Bolsa Chica Road

COMING SOON! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of the center columns for the Bolsa Chica bridge over I-405, in the center median, west of the Bolsa Chica bridge.

Almond Avenue

REMINDER! Crews have begun relocating the fire hydrants along Almond Avenue to make room in the street for the sound wall activities. This work requires lane closures on Almond Avenue between Daisy Street and Pansy Circle. Access to all streets and driveways will always be maintained and the crew will include flaggers to assist with traffic control.

Below is an anticipated schedule of activities:

  • The week of Jan. 19, crews began excavating on Almond Avenue to tap into the main waterline for the new hydrants.
  • Then for approximately two weeks, crews will continue excavation, perform waterline system testing, and sidewalk repair activities.
  • The week of Feb. 16, crews are anticipated to remove the valves for the old fire hydrants. This work will require shutting off water for up to six hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The outreach team will provide you and your neighbors with an update prior to this water shutoff.

What’s Next?
Demolition and reconstruction of the sound walls along Almond Avenue are anticipated to commence as early as February 2021. Crews will install a temporary sound barrier prior to demolition.
