Congressional candidate Jay Chen condemns Congresswoman Young Kim for voting against Equality Act

Today Lt. commander Jay Chen, and candidate for Congress in California’s 39th Congressional District, released the following statement condemning Rep. Young Kim for refusing to support the bipartisan Equality Act, which would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to provide protections for LGBTQ individuals.

“Yesterday, Representative Young Kim voted against extending basic human rights to members of the LGBTQ community,” said Chen. “While extremely disappointing, this is not surprising. Young Kim has a long and storied anti-LGBTQ vote record and history of bigoted aggressions.”

“I have been a staunch supporter of LGBTQ rights and was an active member in the No on 8 campaign. I am ready to stand with the LGBTQ community and demand respect and equality for everyone regardless of sexuality, gender, race, or religion,” Chen continued. “We can not sit idly by and tolerate this behavior.”

Young Kim, who has continuously been running for office for nearly a decade, has established a long history of opposing the LGBTQ community at every turn. In addition to voting against the historic Equality Act, Young Kim is on record with the following anti-LGBTQ trangressions:

  • Young Kim opposes gay marriage.
  • Young Kim does not believe that individuals are born with their sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • In 2014, Kim was condemned for running bigoted campaign advertisements targeting transgender students.
  • Young Kim told a reporter that legislation to protect transgender children from discrimination in California public schools is a “stupid, crazy bill”
  • Kim refused to vote to allow healthy gay men to donate blood.
  • Kim voted against prohibiting state agencies from entering contracts exceeding $100,000 with companies that discriminate based on gender identity.

The article above was released by Jay Chen for Congress.

  1. I guess Mrs Gina you will say the same thing when the George Floyd bill come up too. You entitle people make me sick that what wrong with this country.Another thing look up socialism before you speak about because you don’t know what socialism look it up because the mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  2. Give me a break! The Equality Act is to take abnormal lifestyles and make them normal. It’s liberals insisting there are more than two genders. There are males and females – period!

  3. Gina, you are exactly why the Equality Act is necessary. Based on your prejudiced attitudes, it’s clear you would fire someone for being gay, not rent an apartment to a lesbian, or serve a transgender person in a restaurant. Once the Equality Act is signed into law, finally prejudiced and mean-spirited people like you will be held accountable under the law.

  4. Mr. Chen, the so-called Equality Act is just another way that Socialists like you can destroy the United States. You and the Socialist Party (aka Democrats) act like millions of Americans are LGBTQ. I am registered as No Party Preference so I vote based on the candidate. I do not want a candidate like you that thinks equality means forcing your views on everyone else. The LGBTQ lifestyle is not normal to many people no matter how many times you try to cancel those like me who disagree with you.
