REMINDER! Fairview Road Bridge Partial Demolition

Crews shifted traffic to the new side of the Fairview bridge over I-405 on Friday, Feb. 12, in anticipation of partial demolition.

Demolition activities have begun and the second half of the bridge will continue to be demolished over one more night under full freeway closures. Additional nighttime demolition will occur for several weeks under freeway lane closures. Some daytime demolition also is anticipated.

Night Three

  • NB I-405 full closure from 10 p.m. Friday, March 5, to 7 a.m. Saturday, March 6
    • Lane reductions will be in place from 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday, March 6
  • Fairview Road closure from 10 p.m. Friday, March 5, to 8 a.m. Saturday, March 6

Fairview between McCormack Lane and South Coast Drive also will be closed for this work. However, residential access will be maintained.

NB I-405 off-ramp to Harbor will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, March 5, to 8 a.m. Saturday, March 6.

UPDATE! Southbound (SB) I-405 On-Ramp from Center Avenue/Beach Boulevard to Close for Approximately One Month

Crews will close the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Center Avenue for approximately one month to accommodate the freeway widening.

Additionally, crews will close Center Avenue between Beach Boulevard and the SB Center on-ramp for approximately two weeks; and the SB I-405 off-ramp to Beach will be closed for approximately one weekend.

Activities include demolition, excavation, grading, drainage and electrical system installation, concrete pours and asphalt paving.

SB I-405 Loop on-ramp from Center Avenue

  • As early as 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 for approximately one month.

Center Avenue

  • As early as 10 p.m. Sunday, April 3 for approximately two weeks.

SB I-405 off-ramp to Beach Boulevard

  • As early as 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 for approximately one weekend.

REMINDER! Eastbound (EB) SR-22 Connector to Northbound (NB) I-605/I-405 55-Hour Closure

Crews will be performing drainage and roadway work on the EB SR-22 connector to NB I-605/I-405. This work will require a 55-hour closure of the connector. Activities include installation of drainage pipe, paving and guard rail work.

The 55-hour connector closure is anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. Friday, March 5, and continue until 5 a.m. Monday, March 8.

REMINDER! Full Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) Freeway Closures for Bolsa Avenue Bridge Falsework Removal

Crews will continue to remove the falsework for the Bolsa Avenue bridge over I-405. This work will require full SB and NB freeway closures.

NB I-405 nightly closures are anticipated to continue 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday:

  • Wednesday, March 3, and continue nightly through Wednesday, March 10* on weekdays

SB I-405 nightly closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday:

  • Wednesday, March 10*, and continue nightly through Friday, March 19 on weekdays

*Only one direction is planned to be closed on March 10. If NB work has not been completed, it will be closed. Otherwise, SB will be closed. The 405 Community Outreach Team will continue to provide detailed schedule information in future alerts.

UPDATE! Full Bridge Closures of McFadden Bridge for Joint Seal Work

Crews will install the joint seal for the McFadden Avenue bridge over I-405. This work will require full McFadden bridge closures between Sugar Drive and Huntington Village Lane.

Bridge closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. Thursday, March 4 to 5 a.m. Friday, March 5, and again Friday, March 5, if needed.

UPDATE! Additionally, crews will continue constructing the McFadden bridge monument over I-405. This work will require lane reductions on McFadden in each direction between Pacific Street and Vermont Street in late March.

REMINDER! Full Harbor Boulevard Closures for Falsework Removal

Crews will continue removing the falsework for the widened I-405 bridge over Harbor. This work requires full closures of SB and NB Harbor between the I-405 ramps.

Harbor closures are anticipated to continue as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:

  • Wednesday, March 3, and continue nightly through Tuesday, March 9, on weekdays.

COMING SOON! Partial Fairview Road Closures for Retaining Wall Activities

Crews are scheduled to pour concrete for the retaining wall along northbound (NB) Fairview Road, south of the on-ramp to SB I-405 and SB SR-73. This work will require NB Fairview lane reductions between McCormack Lane and South Coast Drive.

Concrete activities and lane reductions are set for as early as mid March and continue on weekdays, weeknights and Saturdays as needed through Spring 2021.

COMING SOON! Full Freeway Closures for Edinger Avenue Bridge Falsework Installation

Crews anticipate installing falsework for the Edinger Avenue bridge over I-405. This work requires full closures of SB and NB
I-405 Freeway closures.

COMING SOON! Northbound (NB) I-405 Off-Ramp to Fairview Road/Harbor Boulevard/Susan Street to Close for Approximately 100 Days

Crews will close the NB I-405 off-ramp to Fairview/Harbor/Susan in early April for approximately 100 days to accommodate the freeway widening.

The 405 Community Outreach Team will provide detailed schedule, detour and closure information in future alerts.

REMINDER! Southbound (SB) I-405 Median Demolition between Goldenwest Street and Bolsa Avenue

Crews will resume demolishing the median along SB I-405 and the SB off-ramp to Bolsa to accommodate the freeway widening.

The demolition is set to continue as early as TONIGHT, Wednesday, March 3.

  • Nighttime hours: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Please note, that nighttime lane reductions on I-405 may be required between Goldenwest and Bolsa from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

REMINDER! Nightly Southbound (SB) I-405 Freeway Closures for Bridge Work

Nightly SB I-405 closures are scheduled to continue for Brookhurst Street bridge construction. Activities include equipment mobilization, pile installation, shoring installation, falsework installation and grading, and column demolition of the old half of the Brookhurst bridge.

SB I-405 will be closed between Magnolia and Brookhurst.

The nightly closures are set to continue 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights for approximately three weeks, as needed.

REMINDER! Bolsa Avenue Full Closure for Concrete Work

Crews will continue concrete work for a retaining wall along eastbound (EB) Bolsa Avenue. This work requires full closures of Bolsa between Goldenwest Street and Chestnut Street.

Nightly closures are set to continue  9 p.m. Wednesday, March 3 to 5 a.m. Thursday, March 4.

A detour will be in place for pedestrians and bicyclists to navigate around the closure.

REMINDER! Nightly Consecutive Ramp Closures Scheduled for Approximately Six Months

Nightly closures of the following ramps will be scheduled as needed until May 2021to support bridge construction activities at Magnolia and Brookhurst:

  • Southbound (SB) I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Magnolia
  • SB I-405 On-Ramp from Warner Avenue
  • SB I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Brookhurst

Closure hours are:

  • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights
  • 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekends

REMINDER! Southbound (SB) I-405 Off-Ramp to Bolsa Chica Road Closed for Approximately One Year

Crews closed the SB I-405 off-ramp to Bolsa Chica Road on Oct. 27, 2020 for approximately one year to advance construction on the Bolsa Chica bridge.

Harbor Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began installing piles for the foundation of a wall adjacent to the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Harbor.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night.

Talbert Avenue

REMINDER! Crews will continue construction of the Talbert Avenue bridge over the I-405. This work will require intermittent lane reductions at the intersection of Talbert and Ward Avenue and at Talbert and Brookhurst Street. Ongoing activities include traffic signal construction.

  • Ongoing 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, until Talbert bridge opening.

Note: additional lane redactions are anticipated in early March for waterline installation.

San Rafael Street

REMINDER! Crews will continue working on the foundation of the retaining wall adjacent to San Rafael Street along northbound (NB) I-405 between Talbert Avenue and Brookhurst Street.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately two weeks.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night.

Heil Avenue

REMINDER! Crews will continue installing piles for the foundation of the Heil Avenue pedestrian bridge over I-405.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, for approximately two weeks.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m. and some activities may occur at night.

REMINDER! Crews continue construction activities for the Heil pedestrian bridge over I-405. Activities include excavation, shoring, and pile driving to continue forming the foundation of the bridge.

Following this work, crews will begin forming the footings and columns, as well as construct the falsework to form the spans over the freeway.

This work requires an extended closure of Heil between Ross Lane and Landau Lane.

The closure began on Wednesday, Dec. 30, and is expected to continue for approximately seven months.

Residential access will be maintained at all times.

Beach Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began construction of the traffic signal at the Beach/Edinger Avenue and Beach/Center Avenue intersections on Feb. 8, for approximately two months. This work requires intermittent lane reductions at the intersections of Beach between Stark Drive and Center.

Daytime work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends.

McFadden Avenue

COMING SOON! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of a retaining wall along the southbound (SB)
I-405 adjacent to College Park in Spring 2021.

Vermont Street

REMINDER! Crews will continue working on the foundation of the wall along southbound (SB) I-405, south of Bolsa Ave.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, for approximately three weeks.

Goldenwest Street

UPDATE! Crews postponed installing piles for the foundation of Goldenwest bridge over I-405 along northbound and southbound I-405, adjacent to Goldenwest.

The 405 Community Outreach Team will provide detailed schedule information in future alerts.

Westminster Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began working on the foundation of the retaining wall adjacent to Cascade Park along the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Westminster Boulevard. The foundation consists of approximately 80 cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night. Please note intermittent nighttime closures of the SB I-405 on-ramp from Westminster may be required.

Additional construction activities including rebar, form and concrete activities are anticipated in May/June and backfill and block wall installation is anticipated in July/August.

Milan Street

REMINDER! Crews will continue working along Milan Street adjacent to southbound (SB) I-405, between approximately Stratford Avenue and Lowell Circle, as part of the freeway widening project.

Construction activities will include removing k-rail, as well as sidewalk, curb, and gutter construction, and street restoration.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for approximately two months on weekdays.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m.

Bolsa Chica Road

REMINDER! Continuation of pile driving for the Bolsa Chica bridge over I-405 along the center median and SB I-405 at Bolsa Chica bridge.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately two months.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activities may occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. as needed.

Almond Avenue

REMINDER! Crews have begun relocating the fire hydrants along Almond Avenue to make room in the street for the sound wall activities. This work requires lane closures on Almond Avenue between Daisy Street and Pansy Circle. Access to all streets and driveways will always be maintained and the crew will include flaggers to assist with traffic control.

What’s Next?
Demolition and reconstruction of the sound walls along Almond Avenue are anticipated to commence after the fire hydrant activities are complete and as early as March 2021. Crews will install a temporary sound barrier prior to demolition.
