Weekly message from Neighborhood Church: Let’s get interactive

Psalms 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.

As our grandkids grow, it is so fun when they start interacting. Just last night we were on a Facetime call with one of our youngest grandkids. His mom said he kept looking at her phone and saying, “Papa, PaaaPa, PAAAA-PA!” So she called, and I answered, and my grandson’s face lit up. He then launched into to some great explanation or story or recounting of something. I could not tell what he was saying as his words have not yet caught up with his desire to connect and interact. But the expression on his face, his smiling eyes, his tones, and his enthusiastic gestures were wonderful, and we had a fun, interactive time. Kristi, my wife and his “Mormor” (mother’s mother in Swedish), got on the call and our grandson was even more thrilled. Kristi has a gift in communicating with kids and they went on to have a fantastic time interacting. Sure, it takes a bit of effort but it’s all so worth it. Interaction is foundational to any relationship.

God encourages us to interact with others. So, let’s get interactive!

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

God also desires for us to interact with Him. Our communication with God is called prayer. Prayer is simply talking to God.

Jeremiah 29:12-14a Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you…

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Psalms 18:6 In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.

God does answer.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
Psalms 32:8 I (God) will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Now, I have never heard God speak to me in an audible voice. But He speaks to me through His Word, the Bible. God speaks to me through songs, sermons, movies, other books, articles, and readings. God speaks to me as I spend time in nature or inside thinking, pondering, actually having an interactive conversation with God. King David of the Bible seems to do that a lot in the Psalms (see Psalm 30, Psalm 40, Psalm 56, Psalm 52 for a few examples). It’s possible and something God desires. Why not give it a try? Sure, it takes effort and may be bit awkward at first, but it is well worth it. Let’s get interactive.

Church is a place to be both interactive with others and God! If you don’t already have a church you regularly attend, we would like to invite you to view or visit Neighborhood Church. We have a 9am live-stream gathering from our Cypress campus and another pre-recorded gathering at our Los Alamitos campus. In addition, both of these locations and times are now open for in-door, in-person gatherings. There is also an in-door, in-person gathering at the Cypress campus at 10:30am. Our webpage has information on how to connect with us or you can find us online at neighborhoodchurch.com. As well, if you would like to view any of our past worship gatherings or videos, visit our YouTube channel, or just search Neighborhood Church Cypress or Neighborhood Church Los Alamitos on their YouTube site.

Seeking to interact with others and God along with you,

Mike
