UPDATE! Full Magnolia Bridge Closures for Bridge Work

Crews will begin shoring removal activities for the Magnolia Bridge over I-405. This work will require full closures of Magnolia between the freeway ramps.

Nightly Magnolia bridge closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:

Tuesday, March 23 through Thursday, March 25
Friday, March 26, if needed

UPDATE! Full Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) Freeway Closures for Edinger Avenue Bridge Falsework Installation

Crews will begin installing falsework for the Edinger Avenue bridge over I-405. This work will require full closures of the SB and NB I-405.

NB I-405 nightly closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday:

REMINDER! Full Southbound (SB) and Northbound (NB) Freeway Closures for Magnolia Street Bridge Falsework Removal
Crews will begin to remove the falsework for the Magnolia Street bridge over I-405. This work will require full SB and NB freeway closures.

SB I-405 nightly closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday:

Wednesday, March 17 through Monday, March 22* on weekdays

NB I-405 nightly closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday:

Monday, March 22* through Friday, March 26

*Only one direction is planned to be closed on March 22. If SB work has not been completed, it will be closed. Otherwise, NB will be closed.

REMINDER! SB I-405 On-Ramp from Center Avenue/Beach Boulevard to Close for Approximately One Month

Crews closed the SB I-405 on-ramp from Center Avenue for approximately one month on March 10 to accommodate the freeway widening.

Additionally, crews will close Center Avenue between Beach Boulevard and the SB Center on-ramp for approximately two weeks; and the SB I-405 off-ramp to Beach will be closed for approximately one weekend.

Activities include demolition, excavation, grading, drainage and electrical system installation, concrete pours and asphalt paving.

SB I-405 Loop on-ramp from Center Avenue

  • Ongoing for approximately one month.

Center Avenue

  • As early as 10 p.m. Saturday, April 3 for approximately two weeks.

SB I-405 off-ramp to Beach Boulevard

  • As early as 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 for approximately one weekend.

Crews will continue to remove the falsework for the Bolsa Avenue bridge over I-405. This work will now require SB freeway lane reductions between Goldenwest Street and Bolsa.

SB I-405 freeway lane reductions are anticipated to begin nightly as early as 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday:

COMING SOON! Full Freeway Closures for Brookhurst Street Bridge Falsework Installation

Crews anticipate installing falsework for the Brookhurst Street bridge over I-405 inlate March to early April. This work will require full closures of the SB and NB I-405.

COMING SOON! Partial Lane Closures on Seal Beach Boulevard for Median Work

Crews will begin work on the Seal Beach Boulevard median between Lampson Avenue and the freeway ramps. This work will require lane reductions of Seal Beach Boulevard in late March to early April.

COMING BACK SOON! Lane Closures on McFadden Bridge for Monument Work

Crews will continue constructing the McFadden bridge monument over I-405. This work will require lane reductions on McFadden in each direction between Pacific Street and Vermont Street in lateMarch.

COMING SOON! Northbound (NB) I-405 Off-Ramp to Fairview Road/Harbor Boulevard/Susan Street to Close for Approximately 100 Days

Crews will close the NB I-405 off-ramp to Fairview/Harbor/Susan in early April for approximately 100 days to accommodate the freeway widening.

COMING SOON!Westbound (WB) SR-22 On-Ramp from Old Ranch Parkway to Close for Approximately 8 Months

Crews will close the WB I-405 on-ramp from Old Ranch Parkway to accommodate the freeway widening.

REMINDER! Southbound (SB) I-405 Off-Ramp to Bolsa Chica Road Closed for Approximately One Year

Crews closed the SB I-405 off-ramp to Bolsa Chica on Oct. 27, 2020 for approximately one year to advance construction on the Bolsa Chica bridge.

REMINDER! Nightly Southbound (SB) I-405 Freeway Closures between Magnolia and Brookhurst for Bridge Work

Nightly SB I-405 closures are scheduled to continue for Brookhurst Street bridge construction. Activities include equipment mobilization, pile installation, shoring installation, falsework installation and grading, and column demolition of the old half of the Brookhurst bridge.

SB I-405 will be closed between Magnolia and Brookhurst.

The nightly closures are set to continue 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights for approximately three weeks, as needed.

REMINDER! Nightly Consecutive Ramp Closures Scheduled for Approximately Six Months

Nightly closures of the following ramps will be scheduled, as needed, until May 2021 to support bridge construction activities at Magnolia and Brookhurst:

  • SB I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Magnolia
  • SB I-405 On-Ramp from Warner Avenue
  • SB I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Brookhurst

Closure hours are:

  • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights
  • 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekends

Construction Activities

Fairview Road

NEW! Crews are scheduled to continue working on the retaining wall along northbound (NB) Fairview Road, south of the on-ramp to southbound (SB) I-405 and SB SR-73. This work will also require NB and SB Fairview intermittent lane reductions between McCormack Lane and freeway ramps. Additional activities include strip and form work and concrete pours.

Nightly intermittent lane reductions are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Wednesday, March 17 and continue through the end of May on weeknights.

Retaining wall activities are ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m. and some activity may occur at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed.

Concrete pours are anticipated in late March and early April.

Harbor Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began installing piles for the foundation of a wall adjacent to the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Harbor.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night.

Talbert Avenue

REMINDER! Crews will continue construction of the Talbert Avenue bridge over the I-405. This work will require intermittent lane reductions at the intersections of Talbert and Ward Avenue and at Talbert and Brookhurst Street. Ongoing activities include traffic signal construction.

  • Ongoing 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, until Talbert bridge opening.

Note: additional lane redactions are anticipated in early March for waterline installation.

San Rafael Street

REMINDER! Crews will continue working on the foundation of the retaining wall adjacent to San Rafael Street along northbound (NB) I-405 between Talbert Avenue and Brookhurst Street.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, March 19.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night.

Heil Avenue

REMINDER! Crews continue construction activities for the Heil pedestrian bridge over I-405. Activities include excavation, and shoring to continue forming the foundation of the bridge.

Following this work, crews will begin forming the footings and columns, as well as construct the falsework to form the spans over the freeway.

This work requires an extended closure of Heil between Ross Lane and Landau Lane.

The closure began on Wednesday, Dec. 30, and is expected to continue for approximately seven months.

Residential access will be maintained at all times.

Beach Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began construction of the traffic signal at the Beach/Edinger Avenue and Beach/Center Avenue intersections on Feb. 8, and is expected to continue for approximately two months. This work requires intermittent lane reductions at the intersections of Beach between Stark Drive and Center.

Daytime work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends.

POSTPONED! Crews postponed falsework and overhang removal activities for the widened I-405 bridge over Beach Boulevard. This work required intermittent Beach closures between Center Avenue and northbound (NB) I-405 freeway ramps.

McFadden Avenue

COMING SOON! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of a retaining wall along the southbound (SB) I-405 adjacent to College Park in Spring 2021.

Bolsa Avenue

REMINDER! Crews will remove a portion of the I-405 bridge over the railroad, along the northbound (NB) and southbound (SB) I-405 between Bolsa Avenue and McFadden Avenue.
Activities include demolition, excavation, and hauling materials.

  • As early as 7 a.m. Monday, March 22 for approximately one week.

SB I-405

  • As early as 7 a.m. Monday, March 29 for approximately one week.

Daytime work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

REMINDER! Crews will continue installing a drainage pipe and basin adjacent to a retaining wall along northbound (NB) Goldenwest Street, along NB Goldenwest between the NB I-405 loop on-ramp and Sowell Avenue. This will involve trenching and concrete work.

  • Ongoing 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for approximately one week.

POSTPONED! Crews postponed installing piles for the foundation of Goldenwest bridge over I-405 along northbound and southbound I-405, adjacent to Goldenwest.

Westminster Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began working on the foundation of the retaining wall adjacent to Cascade Park along the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Westminster Boulevard. The foundation consists of approximately 80 cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night. Please note intermittent nighttime closures of the SB I-405 on-ramp from Westminster may be required.

Additional construction activities including rebar, form and concrete activities are anticipated in May/June and backfill and block wall installation is anticipated in July/August.

Milan Street

UPDATE! Crews postponed working along Milan Street adjacent to southbound (SB) I-405, between approximately Stratford Avenue and Lowell Circle, as part of the freeway widening project.

Bolsa Chica Road

REMINDER! Continuation of pile driving for the Bolsa Chica bridge over I-405 along the center median and SB I-405 at Bolsa Chica bridge.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately two months.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activities may occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. as needed.

Almond Avenue

What’s Next?
Demolition and reconstruction of the sound walls along Almond Avenue are anticipated to commence after the fire hydrant activities are complete and as early as March 2021. Crews will install a temporary sound barrier prior to demolition.
