NEW! Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) I-405 Freeway Closures for Warner Avenue Utility Work

Crews will close the SB and NB I-405 between Magnolia Street and Brookhurst Street to advance utility work. Additionally, crews will close the outside lane on eastbound (EB) Warner bridge over I-405 between freeway ramps.

The SB and NB I-405 freeway closures and EB lane closure are set to begin as early as 10 p.m. Saturday, April 17, to 6 a.m. Sunday, April 18.

REMINDER! Ward Avenue Bridge Closure and Demolition

Predemolition activities will begin immediately. Full demolition of the Ward bridge over the freeway is set for as early as Saturday, April 24.Additional demolition activities will occur in the following weeks.

COMING SOON! Talbert Avenue Bridge to Open to Traffic Soon!

The Talbert bridge is anticipated to open to traffic by the morning of Saturday, April 17.

Remaining activities include installation of permanent fencing and maintenance items. Landscaping is anticipated to be installed toward the end of the project.

COMING SOON! Full NB and SB I-405 Freeway Closures for Edwards Street Bridge Falsework Activities

Crews will be working on the falsework for the Edwards bridge over I-405. This work will require NB and SB freeway closures between Bolsa Avenue and Westminster Boulevard.

NB I-405 freeway closure is anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, to 5:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15.

SB I-405 freeway closure is anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. Thursday, April 15, to 5:30 a.m. Friday, April 16.

COMING SOON! Full NB and SB I-405 Freeway Closures for Brookhurst Street Bridge Falsework Installation

Crews will begin installing falsework for the Brookhurst Street bridge over I-405. This work will require partial and full closures of the NB and SB I-405 between Talbert Avenue and Slater Avenue. Additionally, crews will close the NB and SB I-405 on-ramps from Brookhurst.

SB I-405 freeway nightly closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5:30 am, Wednesday, April 21, to Wednesday, April 28* on weeknights.

NB I-405 freeway nightly closures are anticipated to begin as early as 10 p.m. to 5:30 am, Wednesday, April 28*, to Wednesday, May 5 on weeknights.

*Only one direction is planned to be closed. If SB work has not been completed, it will be closed. Otherwise, NB will be closed.

REMINDER! Full NB and SB I-405 Freeway Closures for Edinger Avenue Bridge Falsework Installation

Crews will continue installing falsework for the Edinger Avenue bridge over I-405. This work requires full closures of the NB and SB I-405.

SB I-405 nightly closures set for 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, to 5:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15.

REMINDER! Partial Lane Closures on Seal Beach Boulevard for Temporary Signal Work

Crews will continue traffic signal construction work at the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard and Lampson Avenue and the intersection of Seal Beach Blvd. and the NB I-405 freeway ramps.

Activities include the installation of temporary wooden poles, traffic signal heads and electrical work.

Temporary traffic signal construction is ongoing 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for approximately one week on weeknights.

Seal Beach Blvd. and Lampson Ave. will be intermittently reduced to two lanes at the intersection for the duration of the work.

REMINDER! Bolsa Chica Road Sidewalk Closure

Crews closed the sidewalk at the intersection of Old Bolsa Chica Road and Bolsa Chica Road for sidewalk, curb, pedestrian ramp and traffic signal construction on April 6, for approximately two months.

Activities include k-rail placement, demolition and restriping on Old Bolsa Chica Road.

COMING SOON! Lane Closures on McFadden Bridge for Monument Work

Crews will continue constructing the McFadden bridge monument over I-405. This work will require lane reductions on McFadden in each direction between Pacific Street and Vermont Street.

NEW! NB I-405 Loop Off-Ramp to Bolsa Avenue to Close Intermittently for Approximately One Month

Crews will close the NB I-405 loop off-ramp to Bolsa intermittently for approximately one month on weeknights and Saturdays, as needed.

NB I-405 intermittent ramp closures areanticipated to begin as early as Monday, April 19 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

COMING SOON! NB I-405 On-Ramp from Westminster Boulevard to Close for Approximately 38 Days

Crews will close the NB I-405 on-ramp from Westminster to accommodate the freeway widening in early May.

The 405 Community Outreach Team will provide detailed schedule, detour and closure information in future alerts.

REMINDER! Nightly Consecutive Ramp Closures Scheduled for Approximately Six Months

Nightly closures of the following ramps will be scheduled, as needed, until May 2021 to support bridge construction activities at Magnolia and Brookhurst:

  • SB I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Magnolia
  • SB I-405 On-Ramp from Warner Avenue
  • SB I-405 Loop On-Ramp from Brookhurst

Closure hours are:

  • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights
  • 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekends

REMINDER! Nightly SB I-405 Freeway Closures between Magnolia and Brookhurst for Bridge Work

Nightly SB I-405 closures are scheduled to continue for Brookhurst Street bridge construction. Activities include equipment mobilization, pile installation, shoring installation, falsework installation and grading, and column demolition of the old half of the Brookhurst bridge.

SB I-405 will be closed between Magnolia and Brookhurst.

The nightly closures are set to continue 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights for approximately three weeks, as needed.

REMINDER! Westbound (WB) SR-22 On-Ramp from Old Ranch Parkway Closed for Approximately 8 Months

Crews closed the Old Ranch Parkway on-ramp to the WB SR-22 on April 13, for approximately 8 months to accommodate the freeway widening.

Activities include demolition, excavation, grading, drainage and electrical system installation, concrete pours and asphalt paving.

  • Daytime work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m.
  • Nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

REMINDER! SB I-405 On-Ramp from Center Avenue/Beach Boulevard to Close for Approximately One Month

Crews closed Center Avenue between Beach Boulevard and the SB I-405 on-ramp from Center for approximately two weeks.

Additionally, crews will close the SB I-405 off-ramp to Beach for approximately one weekend. These closures will support the SB I-405 on-ramp from Center/Beach extended closure, and to accommodate the freeway widening.

Activities include demolition, excavation, grading, drainage and electrical system installation, concrete pours and asphalt paving.

SB I-405 off-ramp to Beach Boulevard closure:

  • As early as 7 p.m. Friday, April 16, for approximately one weekend.

REMINDER! NB I-405 and SR-73 Off-Ramps to Fairview Road Closed for Approximately 100 Days

Crews closed the NB I-405 and SR-73 off-ramps to Fairview on April 5, 2021, for approximately 100 days to accommodate the freeway widening.

REMINDER! SB I-405 Off-Ramp to Bolsa Chica Road Closed for Approximately One Year

Crews closed the SB I-405 off-ramp to Bolsa Chica on Oct. 27, 2020 for approximately one year to advance construction on the Bolsa Chica bridge.

Construction Activities

Almond Avenue

UPDATE! Demolition and reconstruction of the sound walls along Almond Avenue are anticipated to commence as early as May 2021. Crews will install a temporary sound barrier prior to demolition.

Beach Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began construction of the traffic signal at the Beach/Center Avenue intersection on Feb. 8, and is expected to continue through the end of April. This work requires intermittent lane reductions at the intersections of Beach between Stark Drive and Center.

Daytime work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends.

POSTPONED! Crews postponed falsework and overhang removal activities for the widened I-405 bridge over Beach Boulevard. This work required intermittent Beach closures between Center Avenue and northbound (NB) I-405 freeway ramps.

I-405 near Bolsa

UPDATE! Crews will remove a portion of the I-405 bridge over the railroad, along the northbound (NB) and southbound (SB) I-405 between Bolsa Avenue and McFadden Avenue.

Activities include demolition, excavation, and hauling materials.

NB I-405:

  • Wednesday, April 14

SB I-405:

  • Thursday, April 15
  • Friday, April 16 and
  • Monday, April 19

Daytime work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m.

REMINDER! Crews will continue working on the foundation of the wall along southbound (SB) I-405, south of Bolsa Ave.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, for approximately three weeks.

Fairview Road

NEW! Crews are scheduled to continue working on the retaining wall along northbound (NB) Fairview Road, south of the on-ramp to southbound (SB) I-405 and SB SR-73. This work will also require NB and SB Fairview intermittent lane reductions between McCormack Lane and freeway ramps. Additional activities include strip and form work and concrete pours.

Crews are anticipated to resume concrete pours for the retaining wall along NB Fairview as early as 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

  • Tuesday, April 27

Nightly intermittent lane reductions are ongoing 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and continue through the end of May on weeknights.

Retaining wall activities are ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m. and some activity may occur at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed.

Concrete pours are anticipated in late March and early April.

Goldenwest Street

UPDATE! Crews postponed pile driving activities for the Goldenwest bridge over I-405, along the center median and NB/SB I-405 at Goldenwest bridge.

Harbor Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews will continue installing piles for the foundation of a wall between Harbor and Fairview Road.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night.

Heil Avenue

REMINDER! Crews continue construction activities for the Heil pedestrian bridge over I-405. Activities include excavation and shoring to continue forming the foundation of the bridge.

Following this work, crews will begin forming the footings and columns, as well as construct the falsework to form the spans over the freeway.

This work requires an extended closure of Heil between Ross Lane and Landau Lane.

The closure began on Wednesday, Dec. 30, and is expected to continue for approximately seven months.

Residential access will be maintained at all times.

McFadden Avenue

UPDATE! Crews will begin installing piles for the foundation of the sound wall adjacent to Sugar Drive and Shasta Lane. Preparation activities have begun and will continue for approximately one week.

Construction is anticipated to start as early as Wednesday, April 14 and will continue from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays for approximately two weeks.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity at night may occur.

Milan Street

UPDATE! Crews postponed working along Milan Street adjacent to southbound (SB) I-405, between approximately Stratford Avenue and Lowell Circle, as part of the freeway widening project.

Talbert Avenue

REMINDER! Crews will continue construction of the Talbert Avenue bridge over the I-405. This work will require intermittent lane reductions at the intersections of Talbert and Ward Avenue and at Talbert and Brookhurst Street. Ongoing activities include traffic signal construction.

  • Ongoing 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays, until Talbert bridge opening.

Westminster Boulevard

REMINDER! Crews began working on the foundation of the retaining wall adjacent to Cascade Park along the southbound (SB) I-405 on-ramp from Westminster Boulevard. The foundation consists of approximately 80 cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles.

  • Ongoing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, for approximately one month.

Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night. Please note intermittent nighttime closures of the SB I-405 on-ramp from Westminster may be required.

Additional construction activities including rebar, form and concrete activities are anticipated in May/June and backfill and block wall installation is anticipated in July/August.
