Weekly message from Neighborhood Church: If it’s good for me, it might be good for you

Psalms 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

Our family loves to try new things and share it with others. My daughter tried this very yummy recipe and called us to tell us that we, “had to try” it. It could be a movie, a restaurant, a Bible verse, a book, an article, a biblically insightful podcast, something on Disney+, or some new food. Just the other day, one of our kids was talking of ‘bitcoin’. The fun is that we are always sharing the things we find that are quality, excellent, of benefit, worthwhile, helpful, enjoyable, and sometimes morally excellent, righteous, or virtuous. We like to share what we think is good, for if it’s good for me, it might be good for you! Like the pizza place in this photo. We love Pizza My Heart. The pizza is great, and the t-shirts are fun.

The greatest good in life is God, and the Bible speaks of His goodness.

1 Chronicles 16:34 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!

Psalms 119:68 You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.

Psalms 86:5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

The word for ‘steadfast love’ is the Hebrew word HESED. The HESED of God is His loyal, kind, good commitment to us. It is an unconditional love where God has chosen to love us in a pure and good way. And this good love never ends. So, we can’t shut it off or turn it down or in some way thwart it. We can’t somehow stop it by our actions, and even if we ignore it or avoid it or run from it, God’s love still is! All we need to do to experience this great HESED/love of God is to turn around in faith and enjoy a relationship with Him. That is so good!

Psalms 145:9 The LORD is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made.

Mercy is not receiving what we do deserve. The reality of our human condition is we deserve the wrath of God due to our sin nature (see Isaiah 59:2, Romans 6:23, Galatians 6:7-8). Yet God’s mercy holds back what we deserve by the actions of Jesus on the cross (see Romans 5:8, John 3:16, 1 Peter 2:24). God is good! Grace is also part of God’s goodness. Grace is receiving what we do not deserve. We do not deserve the blessings of God or our sins to be forgiven or heaven or even a relationship with God, but God is so good and we can receive so much as we, in faith, embrace God (see John 1:12, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 5:24). God is good!

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Psalms 31:19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!

Yes, let’s taste and see that LORD is good. So good that we would share Him with others. Way more than your favorite pizza place, God is good. If it’s good for me, it might be good for you!

Church is an amazing place to learn of the goodness of God. If you don’t already have a church, you regularly attend, we would like to invite you to view or visit Neighborhood Church. Our website has all the information you need for times and locations of all of our Sunday gatherings. We do have a time change for the Cypress campus. We are now gathering at 9:00am and 10:45am.
