OC Rescue Mission’s Digital Children’s Business fair returns to promote creativity, monetary knowledge for kids

Orange County Rescue Mission is hosting its 7th Annual OC Children’s Business Fair, an event put on to encourage money savviness and creativity for children residing and thriving at the Rescue Mission. The event gives kids the freedom to create a small business and market their ideas to the public through a virtual experience.

“This event gives children at the Rescue Mission the opportunity to express their creativity and understand business fundamentals, ultimately setting them up for personal and professional success in the future,” says Jim Palmer, President of Orange County Rescue Mission. “This directly aligns with our commitment to ensure every individual who comes to Village of Hope, regardless of man, woman or child, is given the tools to thrive.”

For its third time, this event will be hosted digitally to ensure the safety of all participants. The community is invited to support the children’s creative endeavors virtually. Individuals will be able to take part in the Business Fair by sponsoring one or more of the children with a donation. All the net proceeds, through Orange County Rescue Mission’s website, will directly benefit these young innovators in the form of a gift card after the Fair ends. The Digital Children’s Fair will launch on Thursday, May 6th and closes on Saturday, May 8th at midnight.

In preparation for the Business Fair, the ten children attended “Kids on a Mission,” a program at the Rescue Mission designated to provide age-appropriate business knowledge, as well as mentorship for each child. This workshop helped the kids gain the confidence and education to successfully market their creations during the Fair.

“Since the digital event was such a success last year, we are so excited and blessed that we are able to continue to host the event virtually, as this is something that the kids here at the Rescue Mission look forward to each year,” says Palmer. “Prior to the pandemic, the OC Children’s Business Fair drew in crowds of 300 plus people, featuring up to 50 booths staffed by children from the Rescue Mission and the surrounding communities.”

Community members interested in sponsoring the young business owners can access the Digital Business Fair as soon as Thursday, May 6th through May 8th at https://give.rescuemission.org/fair.
