The California State Senate today voted to confirm Amanda Ray as the 16th Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the first woman and second African American to lead the department of more than 11,000 members. Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel), the vice chair of the Senate Rules Committee that reviewed Commissioner Ray’s appointment, issued the following statement:
“I was honored to present Commissioner Ray’s confirmation on the Senate Floor and wish her the best as she leads the CHP. She is committed to safeguarding all Californians with a keen understanding of the challenges facing law enforcement today. Her background and vast field experience makes her well prepared to succeed as commissioner.”
